We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Justin Matias. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Justin below.
Justin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission was simple. To make a safe space for creatives to not be judged for who they are and what they believe in. My whole life I dealt with gate keepers who would charge me just for insight and geniuine advice. I wanted to break down the barriers that I dealt with my whole life. Too many countless people I knew had a dream but didn’t have the push drive or fire to execute it. Being a creative means that you are always in your head. And that can lead into depression. My mission was to help people get out of their depression and be able to show no matter what you do in life, make sure that you do the things that make you happy first.
Justin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So my name is Justin and I’m known as @ferriswheeljay across all socials. I first started as a Viral content creator. After garnering over a Quarter Billion views, I realized that wasn’t doing anything for my mental or my career. I transitioned from using instagram and went to tiktok. There I used my voice to turn myself into a brand and land my first sponsorship. With the ‘MLB Creator Class” I had a 4 month deal where I produced content across America including at the World Series. Then the rest was History. The NBA, US Open, And Fifa all reached out. This led me to my First real huge brand deal with Snapchat. In the “523” Series I was given 6 figures to produce my own show for 6 months. And then had my deal extended to another 6 months. The type of problems I help clients with is social media awareness. Bringing the right attention to the brand that benefits in a way that turns into monetization. What sets me a part from others is I don’t do everything for money. Ive helped brands out by giving them one simple piece of advice that someone else could have charged for. I believe heavy in karma and giving back every way you can comes back ten fold always. Im most proud of making a community of people who have changed they content from Mature and Rated R to PG-13. I helped a ton of people get brand safe to actually turn their brand into a money maker. Being from one of the toughest hoods in NYC (East New York) I wasn’t a product of my envirnomnent at all. I showed that the Rose can grow from the concrete.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My ultimate goal in my creative journey is to have a non-profit that benefits children, families of color, and disabled people across the world. I want to open up schools for kids to harness their creative ideas and turn them into something that can change the community they live in. Another goal of mine is Executive Produce a short film, Animated film. I want to show people that I’m not just an ‘influencer” or “content creator”. Im a jack of all trades, Master of ALL. One day I hope to speak on huge panels or the United Nations about taking this creative energy and teaching people to take it to the next level.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I simply read more about things. The internet is at our disposal and we still don’t use the full power of it. If I simply read up on things or even read more books on the subject matter I wouldn’t have dealt with a lot of trials and tribulations. I also wish that I networked and was more social at events to meet people and converse with them. I eventually met some people years later that loved who I was as a brand and told me they wish they meet me years ago not remembering that we had already did.
