We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Justin LeVett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Justin below.
Justin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I specialize in being a generalist. This enables me to be able to photograph what ever my clients need, without having to shop around for multiple photographers to capture all of their work.
I build long lasting years long relationships with clients to build their image library and create their brands look. Through our partnership I get to know their brand on a personal level, with a lot of talking, conceptualizing with them and am able to speak into the brand through the photography that we capture together.
I have been working with a client in the healthcare industry for over 10 years. During that time we have been able to create a specific look of the images that has been able to tell their story as well as the stories of their patients to strengthen their brand. We have created a look from headshots of new Doctors and Providers to the environmental portraits throughout the hospitals.Everything from architectural photos, portraits of people, small details, surgery, and anything else that pops up, I am able to capture in the branded look.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Some fun facts about me. I am a Colorado Native, and married another Colorado Native. I am a girl dad and love it. I am a commercial photographer. We living in the Denver Metro area.
My obsession with photography goes back to the days of a 7th grade extra curricular class. I fell in love with being able to share the images that capture my eye with my family and friends. There is something about seeing images that you just exposed to a blank piece of paper pop up in the developer, it is magic. Since my first roll of film in the 7th grade class, photography has captured my imagination. My passion for creating images never gets old, and I can’t wait to get a camera in my hands for my clients or personal projects every week!
For the last 20 years I have been producing images for businesses nationwide. You could say this is a thing. I would tell you yes, it is. It is my passion to create clean crisp photographs for clients to push their brand, or to hang on my walls at home (my wife sometimes feels like she lives in a gallery). I have been all over to capture images of authentic people in authentic places, always on location to create that image real life image.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I have always had the goal of not taking loans out to fund my business. This has meant that I have had to piece my equipment list together over all of the years. The best way that I have done this is by keeping the overhead costs of running my business low and that is some of the best advise I was ever given.
By keeping my overhead low, that has also shaped me into thinking outside of the box and becoming an On Location photographer. If I need a studio for a project I have learned to either make one at my client’s place of business or rent some space for the day. I am able to think quick and make a great photo in almost any place big or small. I have a home office, and this way of photography excites me. I like walking into a place to take photos that is not put together for a photoshoot and then making it happen for the shoot.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that you get to have the privilege of creating. You can create for your vocation or just for yourself, it doesn’t matter as long as you get to create. It is awesome to be able to be creative and problem solve in every aspect of you life. Doesn’t have to be art. I love having the vocation of being a creative, and being able to create the perfect photograph for someone else, and also being able to look at any situation and seeing that there is more than one way to get to the end goal. Being a part of something much bigger than myself is an amazing reward for doing my passion.
