Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Justin “JD” Martin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Justin “JD”, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Turning my passion for local talent into a job has been a significant and fulfilling project. Since high school, I’ve realized the sheer amount of local artistic talent. From visual artists and photographers to musicians, Burlington County has plenty of talented people who don’t get the accolades they deserve. In my last years of college, after countless basement shows, raves and local preformances, I decided to amplify these artists beyond the underground and into the spotlight, and started Lucid Media Blog.
Justin “JD”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Lucid Media Blog is the pulsating heart of a vibrant and expansive music community. Our journey began in 2023 in the eclectic landscape of South Jersey, where we set out to create a space that celebrates the ever-evolving tapestry of musical genres, artists, and scenes.
Our mission at Lucid Media Blog is to inspire and empower individuals to create the music they genuinely desire. We strongly advocate for artistic expression and believe music can transcend boundaries and connect people profoundly. Our platform aims to amplify the voices of emerging artists and showcase groundbreaking music that resonates deeply with our audience. From promotion to hosting live shows, we prioritize our artists’ success.
Our Roots
Our origins can be traced back to humble beginnings – underground basement shows where friends united by a shared passion for music came together to spread their love for the art form. It’s from these grassroots efforts that Lucid Media Blog was born, driven by a desire to shine a spotlight on the raw talent and creativity found in the underground music scene. From promotional material to hosting live shows, we prioritize out artists success.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to learn to let go of things you can’t control and trust in the team that you’ve built. I’ve always struggled to give up power or control, especially for a project that I feel passionate about. Over the past years, I’ve learned to trust in the people I surround myself with. It only makes sense to trust like-minded people with the same goals and objectives as you. Cooperation is a must in the line of work, you can’t do it all yourself. So make sure your team is solid and you can confide in them.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Lucid Media Blog began as a fan page for local artists but slowly turned into something else. We pivoted to a more promotional page, actively engaging with the artists and reaching out to collaborate and build their online presence. On top of that, our scouring of the local scene enabled us to make many connections and host our local shows. This pivot has opened many doors for us and made this hobby a gig our whole team is passionate about.
