Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Justin Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Justin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
My prior career I spent 10 years playing professional baseball where I learned how to work well with others for one common goal winning! I feel it’s incredibly important to be able to collaborate and communicate with others whether they be in your organization or collaborators on projects. At the end of the day the project can only be the best when the team puts the best foot forward and that can’t happen with a bunch of egos clashing. Team work makes the dream work.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I spent 27 years of my life as a baseball player, being drafted as a First round pick in 2007 I thought that would be my life. In 2016 after ten years in the minor leagues it was apparent that dream was coming to an end. I decided to pick up a camera and film myself giving baseball advice on youtube. I eventually fell in love with the craft of filmmaking prompting myself to get a Bachelors degree in filmmaking from LA Film school. Then starting my production company Media Bolt Productions with the amazing Eric Didier. We provide companies with videos that express their why and tells the story of the importance of their product, service, or lifestyle. I believe putting the time and effort in anything can make you proficient at that craft and just like baseball I did that with filmmaking and continue to strive for greatness.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when a project is completed and people watch it they feel some sort of emotion. When you can help someone else feel inspiration through your project that is what feels the best. Then challenge the viewer to pay it forward and inspire the next person.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I spent over two years post baseball career in trucking logistics hating my job and working nearly 60 hrs a week. All the while I was filming youtube videos on the weekend or shooting a wedding. I would keep a tab open on my desk researching filmmaking and hiding it when my boss came around. I always knew I would be doing this fulltime it was just a matter of time. In 2o20 that time finally came for me.
