Justin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

I always knew I wanted to make clothes because when I was little my mama used to always have the freshest polo, Jordan’s. I think it has always been in my blood, but I didn’t know how to start my brand. In 2016 I started thinking to myself ” I do not like working for people. I rather work for myself” plus I had a son on the way and he to have a future once I leave this earth, My Son showed me anything is possible and that put my energy into a whole different level. I started to look at life differently because I was a basketball player in high school and once I knew it was over for me I didn’t have a passion to do anything else besides going to work and making money to buy shoes and clothes. I started a brand called “FLGM” which was a very popular brand for about two years then I became bored with it. One Day I just decided to change my entire name on all social media platforms and my ego. No kidding it came to me in a dream because I always wanted a name that would stand out and have people talking. The day I Became “Justin Heartman” change my career and my vision of everything. It showed me the power of my storytelling ability, my creativity, my drive to be different, and something organic and new altogether.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

When I started my journey I did not know anybody personally who had a business or clothing line, so I went on YouTube and searched ” How to start a clothing line” or something of that nature. I took a lot of losses in the beginning because I just wanted people to wear my clothes. I did not understand the importance of inventory, Bulk buying, samples, marketing, or anything. Once, I started to understand the business side of things I was up and running and I realize my gift was MARKETING and that’s why I started “Heartmania Entertainment” It gave me access to multiple brands all under one umbrella. You should never get stuck on pleasing others because at the end of the day you got to do what makes you happy and be truthful to your brand and yourself. You don’t want to not have your most popular sizes. Just make sure you follow YOUR business plan and stick to it. Don’t get caught up in the hype and overwhelmed yourself.

How’d you meet your business partner?

I always thought I could do everything by myself because I was the only child and I was stubborn. My business partner Cam Smith has been like my brother since 9th grade. When I first met my brother I could tell he wasn’t fooling with me because I had a smart mouth and was cocky, but for some reason, we just clicked and that’s been my brother ever since. We played basketball at Jordan Vocational High School from 9th-12th grade. Cam always told me “Bruh you got something with this just keeps pushing.” I always used to be negative or just be down on myself, That’s the energy I needed to be around and he wanted to learn the business side of starting a brand and we decided to go into business with each other.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

That’s a FUNNY story, by the way, So when I first started calling myself “Justin Heartman” nobody had no idea who I was or what I was doing. I got on Facebook and started telling crazy stories about how my day went, somebody, screaming my name in public, or just catching the attention of my city. I always used to end by saying ” I didn’t ask for the fame, but I guess it asked for me” lol it started to gain attention and people used to come up to me and be like ” OMG it’s Justin Heartman” I knew they were trying to be funny, but it’s exactly the attention I wanted. Now when I step out somewhere people think it’s my name, but it was brand awareness I was trying to bring upon myself and I’m thankful I did.
