We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Justin Emord a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Justin , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was in high school, I watched the Trans Siberian Orchestra play Madison Square Garden. The combination of story, musical proficiency and visuals was a sensory overload in a way I hadn’t experienced before. About a week after that when I got back home, I went out and got recording software and started writing and recording myself.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Love and a .38 is a blue collar rock band for the masses. Four guys from different parts of the country, whose triumphs, failures, and drive to play music brought them all to Los Angeles where they joined forces. Throughout their career they have been tirelessly D.I.Y. in every aspect of the music business.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, anytime the work we do on record or in a live setting really resonates with someone, that’s always a feel good moment. We put a lot of work into crafting our sound and building these songs for EPs and then crafting a setlist with a good flow and trying to put on a memorable show with that material so when all that hard work is rewarded in such a way, I feel very rewarded.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I think like a lot of artists, the elusive white whale of chasing perfection and chasing a better form of creativity waiting to be unlocked is a major part of what drives and fuels my creative passion. Every new song or new photographic subject matter presents new challenges and I always look forward to tackling those and coming out the other side with a finished product I’m proud of and even more excited for the things I might’ve learned or picked up along the way.
