We were lucky to catch up with Justin Caballero recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, thanks for joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
I believe parents did a great job raising me and instilling certain timeless values in me. Both of my parents helped me build my self-confidence from a young age. My mother especially taught me the importance to dream big and follow your dreams. She always told me that I could accomplish anything I wanted. She helped me expand my thinking of what was possible and tested me to use my imagination. My father was raised by a first generation immigrant from Colombia to United States. He has worked with a chip on his should and worked hard his entire life to be able to provide a great life and many opportunities for me and my family. My dad really instilled the value of hard work in order to accomplish those lofty dreams you can set for yourself. The combination of big dreams and a strong work ethic is instilled deep within my DNA.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I serve as the President of Revive Kitchen & Bath where I oversee the overall success of the business. Revive is a design and build firm specializing in full kitchen and master bathroom remodels throughout Tampa Bay. We were fortunate to have been voted the Best Remodeling Firm in Tampa Bay the last years in a row. We take outdated houses and transform them into beautiful and functional homes for our clients. Being able to provide clients with the home our their dreams is very rewarding.
I grew up learning the remodeling business from my Father who has been remodeling homes since he was eighteen years old. I grew up working for my father and also worked for a successful real estate developer in college. After graduating from Ole Miss, I moved to Tampa and began remodeling homes full-time. To date, I have remodeled over 500 homes and it is fun to see the progress of my skills as well as the quality of product and services we are able to offer our clients.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In entrepreneurship (and in life), there will inevitable be ups and downs. Most businesses fail. If you set out on the path of owning and operating a business you have to know that there is a real chance of the business not working out for a variety of reasons. I started out on my entreprenuerial jouney at a young age, and I have had a handful of business ventures fail to date. The reality is that I learned and became more skilled with each venture. Today, I am the accumulation of all my past experiences and lessons. All of those experiences have taught me important lessons which have allowed me to now succeed in my current business. I believe you don’t fail in life unless you quit. Eventually, you will figure it out and be successful if you just keep going. Like Mark Cuban says, “You only have to be right once.”
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Treating your customers ethically will always pay dividends. I would rather lose money on a deal and keep a client happy then to have an angry customer. We use the “customer is king/queen” mentality. Put your clients first and take care of them, and they will make sure that your business will continue to grow and prosper.
