We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Justin Augustus Fay a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Justin Augustus thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The Idea of owning a record label came from the desire to release my own music since i was starting and nobody else would. Also partly because every artists i saw that came to town i saw perform , they all owned there own labels.
Seemed like the right idea to pursue. the name came from the idea that i didn’t go to any audio college and figured out how to do things on my own. so the name – Quaziscience – was born. Ea stablished in 2020 the goal was to start to get my music out to every digital service provider. i finally was getting my music out and developing a fan base and i thought it would work because i wanted it so bad….came to find out there isnt alot to be made in my genre of Drum and BSDGG
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
YES, i WOULD lOVE TO!
Hello to all!
My name is J. Augustus . ive been able to get into the industry by performing in it for over 20 years! things seem intimidating at first, just had to stick with it and you learn the ins and outs. i started Audio production of hip hop and drum and bass in the late 90s and never looked back. i was performing at the time as an Emcee or MC (master of Ceremony) all around Texas, and was a Dj when my friends would be done practicing mixing id always practice too. i loved all parts of the music but owning a label was always a dream. i had released music on a few different record labels by 2006 or so, but it was not until 2020 in January, i started my own record label, Quaziscience Recordings.
Having the label means i also run a studio out of my home. I record vocalists, record foley and do sound design and FX for film and gaming. I def record vocalists by the hour and love all parts of recording and producing audio!
I produced a Theme song for a military training simulator for Northrop Grumman Aerospace also did the sound design and audio FX. i work in movies too but my fav film has to be the movie Gauntlet. i did all the audio and songs plus dialog. that was a fun one because i built the movie sets as well!
So if you are a rapper or singer that need vocals recorded, give me a call or message! If you need music for a commercial, film, or advertisement, please get in touch. also if you need any film audio or gaming audio sound design, i can do that too! But most of all if you produce Drum And Bass or instrumental hip hop send the label, QUAZISCIENCE RECORDINGS attention J. AUGUSTUS your demo! we are always looking for serious artists that have a good sound to put out for the world to see!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
i think just owning a Drum and Bass record label at all in north america and havent folded shows high resiliance. the fan base is so small that you have to find other creative ways to stay afloat. merch. teaching, patreon is a great idea as well. we are here to stay for awhile thats for sure!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
the best source for nw clients or artists i want towork with is to develope relatiomships and let them spread the word. word of mouth is the best ave i have seen to pull in new artists and clients! if the client is happy they will tell everyone about you!
