Alright, Justice thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
I am proud to have accumulated over 15 years of experience in the field of natural healthcare as a professional. Prior to that, I had the privilege of apprenticing alongside esteemed naturopaths and collaborating closely with both of my renowned parents. I think I was about 13 when I first began helping out in my parent’s office, so I guess that would have been my first “job” in the field. I also worked as a chiropractic assistant, and a medical office assistant during my studies. Along my academic journey, I completed undergraduate degrees in Public Health and Human Development, coupled with extensive exploration of traditional naturopathy and herbalism, which allowed me to broaden my expertise. Recently, I completed my doctorate and master’s degrees in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, receiving comprehensive training in herbal medicine. Throughout my career, I was also honored to have worked with my father in formulating herbal supplements featuring exclusive blends, culminating in the establishment of our own natural supplement company.

I truly believe that what has helped me establish a solid reputation in the natural healthcare industry is a combination of several key factors. First and foremost, my compassionate and specialized care, along with a genuine interest in helping people heal, has allowed me to build meaningful connections with my patients. I genuinely care about their well-being and do my best to provide personalized treatments that address their individual needs. Additionally, my extensive education in various healthcare modalities has provided me with a wealth of knowledge and skills to deliver top-notch care. Lastly, it’s important to mention that I always strive to maintain a high level of professionalism, conducting myself with integrity and ethics. These elements have contributed significantly to my reputation of excellence within the market and continue to shape my private practice today.

The experience of being involved in a business selling process has given me a unique perspective on the importance of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) for both small and medium-sized businesses, not just larger corporations. In my case, working closely with my father in his business, which focused on developing proprietary herbal formulas, allowed me to gain first-hand knowledge of the dynamics of the herbal supplement market. Taking over the company in 2018 was an invaluable learning experience that deepened my understanding of the industry and enhanced my skills as a practitioner in the field of natural healthcare.
However, as I progressed in my professional journey and sought new opportunities, I made the decision to sell the business in late 2023. This decision to engage in an M&A transaction was not solely based on the size of the business, but rather on the strategic vision I had for my career. It was about exploring new horizons and pursuing growth.
Through this experience, I came to realize that M&A can be a crucial aspect of a small or medium business owner’s journey, regardless of the size of the transaction. For smaller businesses, M&A can provide opportunities for expansion, access to new markets, resources, and expertise that may not have been otherwise attainable. It can also be a means of diversification, risk mitigation, and strategic alignment with a larger entity that can accelerate growth.
Moreover, M&A can offer small and medium-sized businesses the chance to capitalize on their strengths and unique selling points, unlocking their full potential in the market. It allows owners to leverage their expertise and intellectual property, while also benefiting from the infrastructure, networks, and resources of a larger organization.
Overall, my personal experience with selling a business has highlighted to me the significance of M&A for small and medium-sized businesses. It is a strategic tool that can not only facilitate growth and market expansion but also enable owners to realize their vision, explore new opportunities, and position themselves for success in a rapidly evolving business landscape.
