We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Justice Morris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Justice below.
Alright, Justice thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
When asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I thought I wanted to go into the medical field because I knew I wanted to make good money, but I wasn’t sure what more I wanted in my life. I earned my college degree in Microbiology and Nutrition. After college, I went through several jobs to find what brought me happiness and fulfillment; I eventually became a food service director and discovered a love of creativity and problem solving. When Covid hit, everything changed for me. My work environments weren’t healthy for me anymore, and I felt a need for a more self-driven work experience. I continued to lean into my creativity and went back to school for marketing.
For a while, I worked part-time as a chiropractic assistant and marketing intern, focusing on developing my skill set to start my own business. The idea was to work with other small businesses because I believed (and still do) that they deserve someone to care and invest in their voice as a business owner. I wanted small business owners as my clients because I understand the value of being a small business owner. I started and didn’t let myself stop, even though some days I really was just doing my best to figure it out along the way. In my early days, I hired a business coach who immensely helped me get started in the industry. Since then, I have taken several leaps of faith to make Savvy Morris Marketing thrive. For nearly two years, I have focused on building on my creativity and communication to connect with clients from all over the country! As we continue to grow, we have brought ideas to execution by slowly expanding our Savvy Morris Marketing team and using resources and connections to further network with other professionals. We still have huge goals that we can’t wait to share through the next year! I’m genuinely so grateful for the experience of getting to experience the highs and lows of being a business owner, and I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those who don’t know me, I am Justice Morris, owner and founder of Savvy Morris Marketing. I’m originally from Oklahoma but have made Dayton, Ohio, my home. The important things to know about me are that I love oat milk lattes and dogs. I am definitely a plant girly and love nature, except maybe the scary bugs. Cinnamon-flavored anything is my jam, and I love being out and about with my community.
As I mentioned in the previous question, I got into the design and marketing industry because I am creative! I pride myself on being the type of person who can see a problem and find innovative ways for the people I work with to feel heard and involved in the process. Savvy Morris Marketing focuses on high-quality brand and website design and redesign. Whether you have an existing brand or are brand new to your business or owning endeavors, we are here to figure out who you are! We work on everything from brand identity, logos, and colors to website design and creation. Our copywriter writes custom copy and offers blogging services alongside my design expertise. Together, we work as a dream team to give every client a tailored brand that highlights who they are with confidence.
What sets us apart from other businesses in the industry is that our approach is in depth and collaborative. We have processes in place that allow us to really get to know our clients, which can be intimidating to some, but we are able to do our absolute best work when our clients take the time to be honest with themselves and us. We care about our clients’ businesses, and it’s never just about how much money we can make. We offer support even after a project is finished because we believe in helping our clients thrive as they navigate business ownership!
One of our greatest strengths is our ability to adapt. The Covid pandemic was a turning point in my life. I have since used this adaptability to refine my business strategies, set clear boundaries, and continue to flourish and grow with my team. We are constantly evaluating our practices to ensure we provide our clients with the best possible experience.
The Savvy Morris Marketing team wants our clients, followers, and readers to feel safe with us. It’s okay that you don’t have all the answers. What matters is that we can take steps to get you to a place where you feel excited and confident about who you are as a person and business owner. We approach every new client with authenticity and excitement. We want those who collaborate with us to feel empowered to be exactly who they are. Your brand and website are a big deal, but you’re an even bigger deal. You matter just as much as the face of your business.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
This is such a good question! Shortly before I met my business partner, I had just had a conversation with my husband about the next big step for my business: hiring a copywriter. My design process felt slowed down because I did not enjoy writing website copy.
Around the same time that I decided I needed a copywriter, I had just started a podcast (then YouTube channel) with a friend, April Kline, called Through the Pink Door. The podcast’s name is to give a nod to the Well for Wellness, which is April’s business located in Kettering, Ohio, a home base for a wide variety of holistic health providers for women and moms. The door to the facility is bright pink; you can’t miss it, and it’s become an icon in the area.
April suggested that Rebecca Kochanek be one of our first guests, and she was so excited to be part of our project! The rest is history. Rebecca said she offered copywriting services, and I just knew that this was the universe aligning to be something great.
She’s been tagging along with me on this wild journey for a year now, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We are constantly learning and growing together, and it’s been a lot of fun navigating the business together!
Rebecca is creative and authentic and knows how to connect exceptionally well with people. She leads with so much love and empathy. I know you all would love her as much as I do.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
This is another great question. My most effective strategy for building my clientele has been COMMUNITY! It’s not just about networking, it’s about finding a place where I belong, where I’m valued.
I strive to be physically present at events and get-togethers around the city to make friends and meet potential clients. Relationship building is something I take very seriously. I have had the opportunity to connect with many business owners in all different fields, and it has been my number one strategy for growing professionally and personally. Being known and trusted within the community as a trusted web designer and digital creator is an honor that I don’t take lightly.
I’m proud of my reputation for showing up and being a friend as well as a professional. I want you to succeed as much as I want success for myself. I sincerely believe we are more powerful as a community if we all use our strengths to build each other up to reach our dreams!
