We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Justace DeVine a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Justace , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear you experience with and lessons learned from recruiting and team building.
Boom ! I moved to Atlanta,GA not knowing a soul outside of my grandmother. I was eager and ambitious to make my dream a reality. I networked so hard that I finally found people who took their craft as seriously as I took mine. The first shoot was a success but honestly, I’m a perfectionist and it wasn’t good enough to me. I then starting seeking out the real raw talent out in Atlanta. I had signed my first model and from there I needed my creative team. I knew exactly who to call and have work together. I produced great editorial shoots with my drive and the power of networking is what got me there
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a bit of a jack of all trades. I do hair, photography, style and design as well as create content/creative director. Overall I bring together individual artists to collaborate on projects to help build their individual portfolio. I work with models, designers, photographers, makeup artists and hairstylist who have a common goal (CREATIVITY). Each individual involved within the project benefits off the creative efforts. What sets me apart from others is that I push more of the high fashion editorial photo shoots. Not to knock anyone on what they do but it isn’t your average sexy lingerie photoshoot. I like to tell stories and sell fantasy’s through the creative direction; really to allow the mind to wonder.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are the future of digital creativity ! I’m very much happy to see how far things can go with it. When I first heard about it I instantly jumped on it; my first item I collected was Tory Lanez album. I still haven’t sold it, I then found the Dogo NFTs everyone was raving about online at one point. I had to have one ,I was so eager to have one that I entered a raffle to win one. Lady Luck shines her favor on me and now I’m an owner of one of those as well. I feel they’re a very lucrative thing to have once you figure out how to sell and when to do it when it’s hot off the stove.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes, there are plenty. I wish I would’ve interned first before jumping off the deep end. Interning with a fashion magazine definitely molded me into better creativity and professionalism. I knew what I wanted to do as far as creating but going the right way about it I learned that through internship.
