We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jus NBL a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jus NBL, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew very young because I started being inside of recording studios at the age of 3 years old , then growing up having a Studio , Green Screen & Internet Radio it was bound to happen because I was around it so much. I started writing at 10 years old I really would say 9 but I really took it more serious then . I started recording really at 13 but I tried once before that since then I been on the journey

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I grew up being inside of recording studios at a young age because my uncles did music and when I started getting older it was a Recording Studio, Green screen and Internet Radio in my basement so I was consumed by it at a young age . I also recently found out my moms side is full of musically inclined people somebody on my moms side played in Duke Ellington’s band part time , my grandmother played the piano and everything I had no idea until recently but, it made sense because my mom would sing in the house and I always thought she sounded great. My Dad side introduced me to music because of them having the recording studios around me but it’s in my blood on both sides.
What sets me apart from other Rappers that’s in my generation is I take what I love about all of the music I love (Jazz , Rock , Classical , Reggae, R&B etc) and combine it from the way I write lyrics to song concepts to rhythms/melodies I’ll come up with, to the type of production and Vocal deliveries I will do I don’t look at myself as a hiphop purist who raps on boombap I got more of a progressive mindset than a traditional one
I’m really proud of myself for never giving up on myself thru all of the challenges one of the main challenges is people doubting you , trying to instill fear , never supporting you because it’s not popular to support you even changing the goal post or trying to tell you how and what you should create , I blocked out all that bullshit to go with my creative vision because ppl will try to change you into something that’s not real to you it’s like they wanna live out their dreams thru you and I can’t have that , then when they can’t control you they don’t wanna support you anymore but I could careless imma win regardless but you really see the true colors of people when you grow in life.
I want the people to know I am a real artist not a entertainer I create with the most pure intentions and that’s to express myself because music is suppose to be an extension of yourself not u copying cliches that are in the air lyrically but expressing what you genuinely feel and think without any filter , that’s why I could never have anybody ghost write for me or co-write with me I have to solely write everything because music is a very personal thing for me & what I meant by not being a entertainer is in terms of trying to people please a group of ppl that’s fickle in the first place .No matter how great your music is after a while ppl will say it’s not good enough or “ I know you can do so much better” when you have put your all into the music you know? I’ve seen that happen to artist to avoid that bullshit you ignore them and challenge yourself without caring about what ppl wanna hear it’s about what you wanna hear as an artist feel me? Pleasing fickle people is insanity please yourself & also I don’t wanna make mindless party/dance music 24/7 either you know? I will have more mature concepts lyrically with interesting production music that will leave people In awe because of how dope the music is. I am more than just making club music all the time , ironically a critic said my music appeals to the Introspective listener & the party goer at the same time because if your listening to what I’m saying & how it sounds you would like/love it but if you just wanna dance to it you would still enjoy yourself

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Overall creating from the heart with my art also people telling me how it uplift there mood/spirit

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Become a household name on a international level so people can hear me all over the world , I really believe my music can uplift people’s spirits I walk around and see a lot of ppl who look dead inside I wanna revive them thru the music
