We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Junny Ann Hibbert. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Junny Ann below.
Junny Ann , appreciate you joining us today. Before we talk about all of your success, let’s start with a story of failure. Can you open up about a time when you’ve failed?
Nelson Mandela’s quote is a powerful reminder that success is not about never failing. It’s about getting back up again, no matter how many times you’re knocked down.
The brand is facing some challenges, however, we are still creating and moving forward. That’s a testament to our resilience and determination. Everyone’s journey is different.
There is no one right way to achieve success. I am staying true to myself and my vision.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m JUNNY. I’m a creative entrepreneur, visionary, and multi-disciplinary artist.
I started my brand, JUNNY®, after being downsized from ESPN. I began with a single caftan, and now I’ve shown full collections on the official NYFW calendar for the past few seasons.
My brand is a go-to for discerning customers who are art connoisseurs and who can’t easily find garments or accessories that empower and reflect their individuality and identity. We cater to people of all sizes, shapes, and colors.
I’m most proud of the clients I’ve dressed over the years. Seeing the look of joy and appreciation on their faces when they try on a garment for the first time is priceless. I’m also proud of the fact that these garments are worn for special moments year after year.
Most recently, I received the James Weldon Johnson Art Fellowship for my work in fiber arts. I wanted to find a way to repurpose leftover textiles, and my sculptured pieces are fast becoming collector’s items.
I’m excited to see what the future holds for my brand, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my story with you.

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
When I started JUNNY®, I upcycled saris from India to create my first caftan. It was an opportunity to give these beautiful pieces a second life.
The first caftan was made in Harlem by a local tailor. We now manufacture in the NY Garment District and ensure that we are adhering to sustainable practices.
Along the way, we have learned so much about the manufacturing process, from idea to sketch, production, and sales. It is a tough journey for WOC entrepreneurs, but it is important to find reliable partners throughout the supply chain.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My clients want timeless pieces that are made to last. I listen to them, observe their needs, and ask the right questions to ensure that I am creating the perfect garment for them. I also consult with them throughout the process to ensure that they are happy with the final product.
My commitment to quality is evident in my work. I use only the finest materials and construction techniques to create garments that will last for years to come. I take the time to understand my clients’ needs so that I can create garments that are both beautiful and functional.
My approach to fashion is refreshing and unique. I am not just focused on creating garments that are beautiful, but also garments that are sustainable. I use recycled materials and ethical manufacturing practices to create garments that have a positive impact on the environment.
