We were lucky to catch up with Junior Ramsey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Junior, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I spent June-September 2020 trying to figure out what my next challenge would be. I am a successful IT engineer but wanted to start my own legacy outside of work. Around 2015 I began to dive deeper into my own Spiritual journey studying African history and also began to build a collection of watches. Fast forward back to 2020, one day I was sitting on my couch and noticed I had all my watches on my desk. I thought to myself ” what if I created my own watch company”. From there i began to develop my 1st sketch and the ANKH was the symbol I immediately wanted displayed on my Timepiece. I began to research how I could get this done and 2 years later I have a watch being worn in 7 different countries and over 25 states.

Junior, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey into the watch industry started back in 2015 when I bought my 1st citizens watch. I am a free thinker and I love to read and learn about African/Black history. My Timepieces brings Consciousness and African art to your wrist. We not only sell beautiful watches but also teach the meaning of the symbols such as the ANKH and how its important to our culture. WatchGAwdz is the name of my company.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing clients has been through social media marketing and pop up shows. Social media has allowed us to reach a vase amount of people in such a short timeframe. We are able to tell our stories and make connections such as with this magazine company.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The initial capital was raised using my own savings and family assistance. I had no idea of the cost it would take to complete such a task and although it was discouraging at times, I knew we had an amazing product and an audience waiting for what we had to offer.
