Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Junior LLedo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Junior , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
It’s interesting because we’re all on our own individual path and I’ve learned to be patient with the journey. I can honestly say that it was small things in the beginning that lead to the opportunities I’m coming across today. The only thing I can control is my pace and the consistency of how much I’m working towards my goals. If I started sooner nothing would have changed the path because my timing is already destined.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a radio host, talk show host, singer, songwriter, record producer, creator of the syndicated radio show “Luminary Sounds” & The Late Show With LLedo. With that long winded list I believe everyone is given a gift of service in some way or another. My early stages of writing music created a desire to support other like minded creatives. Luminary Sounds was created for Independent Music Artists and after a few years The Late Show With LLedo, highlighting celebrity guests was formed.
I’m most proud of being a father. My children are autistic and I support them proudly. I feel what sets me apart is I didn’t allow my creative ideas to be placed on the backburner all because I’m a parent. I went from music reviews in a small garage to a radio station that broadcasts to over a million people within the city, and now a Late Night Show. I stayed consistent as I’m doing now. I single handedly picked the people around me to work alongside with. I overly work to prove to those said people that I’m not going to let them down. If they believe in me, it’s my obligation to do what’s needed for us all to win.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
What’s hot today may not be hot tomorrow. I’ve seen so many talented artists use gimmicks to get peoples attention and once the gimmick is over they were able to develop their skills and it’s a wrap. In this social media world it’s difficult when you’re trying to compete with the everyone else for awareness. You have to be authentic and you have to be bold. Early this year I was in negotiations with a big media company and the deal fell through. Instead of being upset, I got back to work and fixed what I believed needed work. This is why I’m going so hard with The Late Show With LLedo. It’s the biggest challenge putting myself out there with notable people but I believe I will get there. I’ll be the next Arsenio Hall but the bald version.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being able to hear everyone’s story. Regardless of who we are, we all have a unique story and within that story could be life lessons for others. Part of my gift is my personality and being able have people trust me with their stories. My interview process is conversational based. I don’t go into any interview with a list of questions lined up. It’s very spontaneous with improvisation. The best part is leaving each guest feeling that a genuine connection was made.
I’m most proud of my amazing team. Joseph Garcia, aka “FlikzbyJ” has been a major reason for the success of “Luminary Sounds” and “The Late Show With LLedo”. His vision as a cinematographer and videographer has been essential to our success. It’s very rare you meet someone that shares the same passion and energy and determination to win. You should always give people their flowers when they’re here to smell them.
Newcomer, Destiny Elizabeth is an addition to our team that we don’t we needed. Her passion for dance and culture gives us an opportunity to reach more people that deserve to be highlighted. The future is bright when you’re lucky enough to work with such great creatives.
