We were lucky to catch up with Jungmin Cha recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jungmin, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents made to sure that I had enough experience in all aspects of my life. For example, I would be really into a variety of sports, and they always made sure to sign me up for teams. If I wanted to learn an instrument then they would also make sure I had the opportunity to give it a try. The biggest opportunity was allowing me to come to United States and study abroad. They never let me have a “What if” moment, rather I was lucky to be able to experience a lot of things. This has impacted my life and career, because I was able to visit my parents at their jobs and I was have to get the opportunity to see how their life works and why I was able to do such things in my life. This has impacted my career because due to the fact that my parents deal with a lot of international topics, and people, I was able to smoothly get along with different cultures and views.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into photography by taking street photos. Based on my skills at music, always admired that people can be soloist, for example people who are singers are very admiring because it is only them on stage. So, in photography, when taking a potrait of someone it reminds me of that soloist feeling. I have just one person to focus on, and being able to empathize what I feel in that moment to others when they look at my pictures.
I am a photographer who provides portraits, to models or just ordinary people who are not used to being in front of the camera.
I am most proud of making visually pretty images when genuine feelings that come the models themselves. I try to capture them as best as I can so that people can feel their feelings in the portraits.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal is to have my photos influence other people. I see a lot of good photos that do not catch my attention, but I would like to be a great photographer that can catch the eye of every person and not just people in the photograph industry.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect is being able to make their ideas come to life in the photographs that I take for them. They can come to me when a few ideas, and by working together we are able to fulfill and execute them flawlessly.
