We caught up with the brilliant and insightful June Cruz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
June, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
When I first decided to open Pureaty Aesthetics, it came from a very personal place. Growing up, I struggled with acne and scars, and I knew firsthand how much skin affects confidence. After years in nursing, I wanted to merge my clinical background with something that could truly change how people feel about themselves.
The early days were exciting, but they were also some of the hardest. We had to secure a location, handle licensing, and invest in advanced technology like lasers—all while learning the business side of things, which no nursing program ever teaches you. I remember working late nights writing protocols, then waking up early to meet with contractors or finalize insurance.
One of the biggest challenges was balancing patient care with running the business. I had to quickly learn marketing, accounting, and how to build a team. If I could go back, I’d seek out mentorship earlier—it would’ve saved us some trial and error.
My advice for anyone thinking about starting their own practice is simple: know your “why,” because that’s what will carry you through the challenges. Build a support system you can trust, and don’t be afraid to invest time in learning the business side. It’s tough, but seeing clients leave our spa more confident than when they arrived makes every struggle worth it.

June, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve spent more than 20 years as a nurse, but my journey into aesthetics began with my own struggles. Growing up with severe acne and scars, I knew firsthand how much skin issues can affect confidence. What started as a personal search for solutions turned into a passion that blended with my medical background.
That passion led me to create Pureaty Aesthetics in Las Vegas—a med spa where clinical expertise meets compassion. We specialize in advanced lasers, facials, microneedling, injectables, IV vitamin therapy, and weight management programs. Every treatment we offer is something I believe in wholeheartedly, because my philosophy has always been: if I wouldn’t do it for myself or my family, I won’t recommend it to my clients.
What sets us apart is the way we treat our clients like family. Many come to us after trying other places, and leave not only with healthier, glowing skin but also with a renewed sense of confidence. For me, that transformation—inside and out—is what Pureaty Aesthetics is all about.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
In aesthetics and healthcare, success often depends on qualities beyond technical training. The most helpful factors are empathy, adaptability, and communication. Clients aren’t just seeking treatments; they’re looking for trust, comfort, and an experience that makes them feel valued. Being able to listen, connect with people on a personal level, and adapt to their unique needs is what truly builds long-term success in this field. Equally important is resilience—the ability to navigate challenges, setbacks, or unexpected outcomes while maintaining professionalism and confidence.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Coming from a clinical nursing background, I was trained to separate what’s medically necessary from what’s considered elective. For a long time, I placed aesthetic treatments in the “luxury” category. But when I started Pureaty Aesthetics and worked closely with clients, I realized something important: these treatments aren’t just about vanity. They play a huge role in a person’s confidence, mental health, and overall wellness.
I saw clients who carried scars from acne, pigmentation, or hair growth issues that deeply affected their daily lives—how they interacted at work, socially, or even how they felt when looking in the mirror. After seeing their transformation, not only physically but emotionally, I had to unlearn the belief that aesthetics are “optional.” For many people, these services are essential to restoring their sense of self-worth and quality of life.
So now, I treat aesthetic care with the same seriousness and compassion as any other health service. At Pureaty Aesthetics, our philosophy is that beauty and wellness go hand in hand, and helping someone feel confident in their own skin is a form of healthcare.
