We were lucky to catch up with July Dreaming recently and have shared our conversation below.
July Dreaming , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
The truth is that as an artist/creative you constantly question your options and if you’re doing the right thing pursuing your dreams. The main thing that keeps me going is the love that I have for what I do. Every time I get a thought about going back to other options it seems like something big happens for me in my creative area. For example I was releasing a new single for a song I had wrote and had released a visual with it and it wasn’t taking off right away then it seems like in the next week I was offered to do a part in an upcoming movie which will be my first. I love the many different options you can pursue within this industry being a creative. You just have to tap into all of your potential and talents.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started singing as a young child. I did talent shows in school, even almost pursued some acting and singing through high school but ended up getting a job and stopped for a while to pursue school. I later started singing during college and people would always say to really go all the way for it. I was offered to go to Tennessee to record but because of life circumstances at the time I declined. I most recently started to pursue my music on a professional level a year before the Pandemic. I had gained many followers through my social media. The thing that made me stand out is that I have continued to pursue my craft on a daily basis and have always stayed consistent. I lost both parents last year within 3 months and I still kept going.
I am most proud of achieving my accomplishments and goals that I set such as releasing an album independently, multiple music visuals, and now acting.
In the future I want to be a mentor to others that come from not so privileged backgrounds to help them pursue their dreams.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Initially I was just posting everyday. I looked up a lot of YouTube videos on how to grow your social media. The main factor to growing any social media is to stay consistent and constantly look for ways to improve your content. If it is what you really want to do, you have to invest a lot of your time and energy and most of all money.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I watch many of the most successful artists stories and documentaries on how they made it to the top. I like to follow highly successful people and learn about what they had to endure to make it.
