Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julius Ross. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Julius thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve been writing music since I was 9, but when I turned 20 I got enough money to pay for a ticket to a J Cole concert while he was on tour. It was like a birds eye view because he started singing a song I was trying to learn for 2 weeks of his and I knew word for word when he was singing and then and there I said, “yeah I gotta be on that stage.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Juby DaGod and I am an artist, producer, photographer, videographer, and content creator from the southside of Chicago, IL. I started making music when I was 9 years old and I started doing it professionally for over 3 years now. My music is a reflect of my reality and the reality around me. I tell stories and speaks truths of mine and the those who inspire me. This art is more than just a vibe and a groove, it’s an experience. I try to incorporate the stories and conversations I have had with other people in my music. Music for the soul is what I create. I am most proud of the elevating I have done with my craft and all I have accomplished in the amount of time that I have. Developing a brand, being the an artist, a manager, and everything has only allowed me to elevate and learn more about the business and the industry
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to help someone who went through a similar issue or to connect to people through my music is the most rewarding thing about being an artist.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During my sophomore year of college, I fell out of love with basketball especially seeing that it was a dead end at the university I was attended. This was a different experience since I loved playing and I came to college to play basketball. I started flunking classes, I started a job to pay my car note and insurance, and I started to develop my love for music. It was an unreal experience putting basketball on the back burner, but it was honestly for the better. Changing the focus from basketball to music was a difficult transition, but it was probably the best thing that could’ve happened.
