We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julien Ramos . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julien below.
Julien , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have any advice regarding quality control and maintaining quality as your brand grows?
As our company grows, we still want to maintain the individual care needed for our trees to look at their very best at all times for our community to see. We can easily set up an automated system that would eliminate the need to put so many man hours in but by doing so we are taking away from the whole aspect of bonsai. Each individual tree has a piece of me in it when you take it home.

Julien , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Interesting story about how I got into bonsai. I’ve always had a thing for plants and nature but one day I had a friend send me a picture of some orchids he was interested in buying. In the back there was a juniper bonsai that instantly caught my attention and I thought it was so cool. That same week I went and purchased my first bonsai and the addiction was born! Within the next month I had 4. I watched videos and took notes from mentors to start working on my own trees. I was itching to work on more and more so that’s where Big Buddha Bonsai was born. Some of the problems I solve for my clients is offering emergency plant care for bonsai if they are showing signs of low health. We also offer plant care while you’re on vacation and soon enough will have bonsai available to rent for your next party or showing!
I’m most proud of the commitment and patience this business has brought me. I’m also grateful for the abundance of people supporting and showing their love to us here at Big Buddha Bonsai

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by staying consistent and persistent! No matter what always keep posting. Make sure to use things that are interactive like maybe hosting a small give away or raffle. Simply just asking a question to your audience.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve always been in sales but I always had a hard time working in an office or company. I felt like my need was to be outside in nature. I worked at Robbie’s marina for quite some time in my younger years. The owner Michael helped me realized over the time that I had something in me (he saw me before I saw myself) I remember the day I told him I was leaving. He said to me “julien I know you’re going to do great, go but just know if it doesn’t work come back here” knowing that i had it in me and I wasn’t going to come back unless I wanted to go fishing!
