We recently connected with Juliebeth Delgado and have shared our conversation below.
Juliebeth , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
It all started with an afterschool program where I was doing art with elementary school kids. I always had a passion for art, so being able to share that passion along with the knowledge I had with the kids was a great outlet for me during college. Once I graduated, I got the opportunity to start my career teaching kids (K-8), and I fell in love with it. It allowed me to continue my art career and it helped take my creativity to another level. Alongside commission work and making stronger connections with my coworkers and parents, teaching really helped rekindle my love and enjoyment of creating art. My journey helped me realize that I can teach art and still become a successful artist.
Juliebeth , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Juliebeth Delgado, I am a part time illustrator and full time art teacher. I am a commission based artist, which means I strictly work by commission for the time being. My projects include mixed media, digital art, printmaking, and watercolor. Recently, I was commissioned to do a children’s book for a family and I’m so excited to show the end results next month. My goal is to be a full time illustrator working on children books and sell my independent art as prints, stickers, or shirts. I am a “geeky” artist, so my art is often inspired by my childhood games, anime, and cartoons.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part is being able to do what I love everyday and share it with my students and clients. My students bring such a positive energy when it comes to art, and I love being able to come up with exciting ideas together. They help me with my creativity; really get me to think outside the box. Also, I love seeing my clients’ reaction to their finished commissions. It gets me so excited!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to be able to work on illustrating more children’s books and continue selling my art. I have recently begun making stickers and getting everything together with printing. I’ll always be a big geek, so much of my art references games/anime/ cartoons that I enjoy. Hopefully before the end of this year I can open up an online shop to sell my work and show it off!
