Success isn’t just about luck or talent—it’s about having the right mix of passion, adaptability, relationships, continuous learning, integrity, and resilience. Think about it: loving what you do gives you that unstoppable drive to push through obstacles. Remember when Steve Jobs got fired from his own company? He bounced back and changed the tech world forever with Apple. In my case…when I was 25, the brokerage firm I was working for was filing for bankruptcy. But they made me a deal: I could take the firm’s public relations division if I changed the name. That’s how I started BoardroomPR!
Building strong relationships is another key. Networking isn’t just about collecting business cards; it’s about genuine connections that can open unexpected doors. I’m Julie Talenfeld, Founder & CEO of Boardroom PR, a full-service communications company based in sunny South Florida. My journey into the world of public relations and communications began with a deep passion for storytelling and a knack for building meaningful connections. I started my career in journalism and quickly realized that my true calling was in helping businesses tell their own unique stories.
Boardroom PR provides a wide range of services, including media relations, social media management, crisis communications, digital marketing, and event planning. Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience is a word that means a lot to me personally and professionally. One of the most challenging periods of my life was the passing of my first husband. It was an incredibly difficult time, filled with grief and uncertainty. Yet, it was during this period that I truly learned the depth of my own resilience.
When my husband passed away, I was faced with the monumental task of managing my grief while continuing to lead and grow Boardroom PR – and raise two young children. It was a moment that tested every ounce of my strength and determination. There were days when it felt impossible to move forward, but I knew that giving up was not an option.
One of the key lessons I learned during this time was the importance of support systems. My family, friends, and colleagues rallied around me, offering their love and encouragement. Their support was invaluable, reminding me that I wasn’t alone in my journey. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of strong relationships, both personally and professionally.
At work, I channeled my grief into a renewed sense of purpose. I poured my energy into Boardroom PR, determined to honor my husband’s memory by continuing to build the business we had dreamed of together. I found solace in my work, using it as a way to stay focused and grounded. It wasn’t just about keeping the business afloat; it was about creating something meaningful and lasting.
During this time, I also learned the importance of self-care and allowing myself to grieve. I sought professional help, which gave me tools to cope with my loss and manage my emotions. This journey of healing was not linear, but it was essential for my well-being and for maintaining my ability to lead effectively.
Through this experience, I realized that resilience is about growing stronger and more determined in the face of adversity. It’s about finding light in the darkest moments and using that light to illuminate the path forward. My journey through grief taught me that we are capable of far more than we often realize and that our greatest strength lies in our ability to persevere.
Today, I am proud of the business we have built and the impact we continue to make. I am grateful for the lessons learned and the resilience gained, and am remarried to a wonderful man, Howard Talenfeld, who is the Partner and Practice Lead of the Justice for Kids Division at Kelley Kronenberg. Together we are involved in many philanthropic causes, and we love to travel and enjoy our children and families. I feel very lucky!
