Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julie (Little) Williams . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Julie (Little), thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
My idea for the Colby Company sprouted from the death of my Dad, Colby. In 2017 in the middle of my junior year I experienced losing my father to suicide! I quickly started volunteering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and learned my best route for healing was helping. In 2020 I began harvesting the seeds of owning a clothing company for mental health awareness and suicide prevention that have grown into the Colby Company we have today.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Colby Company is a boutique clothing company dedicated to the awareness and normalcy of mental health and suicide prevention. Our brand is all about starting a healthy conversation regarding mental illness and creating a safe place for people from all walks of life. Through our instagram we have been able to spread a message of hope and light by learning stories from followers all across the country!
How’d you meet your business partner?
My best friend and business partner, Alexa Grace, has been with me since the beginning, the beginning of first grade that is. We were inseparable from the moment we met, and still are! In December of 2020 while both going through breakups we decided to move in together! Our apartment was tiny! We paid 700$ in rent and our sink was brown! The blueprints that evolved into Colby Co were drawn up right in our tiny living room, right on our Ikea coffee table! We’re both married now and living farther apart than we ever have, but our passion and drive remain stronger than ever!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My biggest builder of reputation and trust with my market remains in my ability to be open and completely honest with my story and the real life issues of today! I strive to create a space that’s accepting of anyone who wants to come along. Regardless of race, religion, political affiliations or sexual preference EVERYONES mental health and self worth matters! Being able to have my doors open to all has been the catalyst for creating a bond with my followers and customers! I feel truly blessed to be able to have a platform to share my story and learn others! I still can’t believe I’m here and this is my job!
