We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julie Hoffman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julie below.
Julie, appreciate you joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Over the years of being an aesthetician, I’ve customized my aesthetic skills and license, deeply leaning into my intuition, which has created a business that is in complete alignment with who I am and cultivated a sought-after corrective skincare practice.
When I think of what my husband and I have created in this space, I’m in awe that this is mine – and this beautiful space allows me to offer my services and connect with amazing diverse women that come through my door.
In my former life, I worked in the corporate world. Although that experience served me well, I can’t imagine not having the freedom and flexibility to grow a business, while growing my family.
While there have certainly been some hurdles to cross over, when you truly are in alignment and working from your heart space, the elements of abundance fall into place naturally.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I received my license in 1992 from the Aveda Institute in my home state of Minnesota, and in 2003, I became internationally certified by the renowned Euro Institute, graduating top of my class from both schools.
I wanted my 30 years of experience to serve my clients best, so in 2020 I channeled my knowledge to all corrective skin care. Again, by trusting my intuition, Face of Grace has grown into an advanced aesthetic practice focusing on high-end anti-aging treatments, preventative skincare, and all stages of acne protocols.
My business specializes in one-on-one customized programs and treatment, including homecare for optimum results and remote consultations for my long-distance (and new) clients.
My background in high-end event planning for the pharmaceutical industry, plus years of prior experience in resort spas, and my love and skill for working with a diverse population have culminated into a career that truly lights me up every day, with wonderful loyal and repeat clients.
This past year, after years of devotion to building a practice that is solid and stable, I was able to purchase my own space… something I’m very proud of.
I’m also very proud that Jan Marini Skin Research featured Face of Grace during their National Sales meeting as inspiration for other aestheticians. They were acknowledging Face of Grace’s exceptional client and business success during the 2020 shutdown and my unique “locker system,” which allows clients to safely and conveniently pick up products to support their treatments and homecare routine.
I truly believe my consistent business success comes from my passion for how clients feel about themselves at their core – and my love of building lasting relationships.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2019 I took a big leap of faith. My practice was evolving into all corrective skincare with a strong emphasis on advanced treatments that produce undeniable results, not on selling skincare products to the public. As I thrive on offering the highest level of client service in an intimate and private setting, I opted to be no longer open to the public. Not only has this served my clients, but it has also supported my resiliency and well-being.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I had a moment of panic in 2020 when the state forced “shut down” for many businesses, like mine, but after the initial shock, I realized that this was so much bigger than me and Face of Grace Skincare.
I consider myself a spiritual person and turned it over to the powers that be, making a commitment to not go into resistance. I believe it was this mindset and belief that opened the doors for abundance in so many different ways.
The silver lining of the shutdown was that my previous leap of faith decision, moving from retail to a locker system, demonstrated the importance of trusting my intuition.
Like so many business owners, I had to think outside the box. So, I partnered with my medical skincare line, Jan Marini, and offered an online skincare event resulting in one of the most successful events hosted collaboratively with Jan Marini Skin Research.
In addition, I did daily deliveries to my client’s doorsteps – by foot, car, and to the post office. Such a different way of doing business during a difficult time brought me joy and much gratitude for my extraordinarily supportive clients.
