We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julie Hamilton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julie below.
Alright, Julie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
My business was launched in December 2021 and I communicated with my network of colleagues, friends and family via individual emails. A colleague whom I had met through working at my previous company reached out immediately after receiving my email and said she would like me to coach two of her leaders. I had known her for about three (3) years and we had connected through my role as a consultant and her role as a Chief Compliance Officer. I had done some education and consulting with her team during my time as a consultant and we had built a relationship. We stayed in touch when I left the consulting role through social media and periodic check-ins. I was so honored that she trusted me to want me to work with her team members even as a newly certified leadership coach. I am forever grateful to her.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Prior to starting Core Rising Coaching in 2021, I had spent 25 years working as an executive in the healthcare industry. My experience included working as a Chief Compliance Officer at academic healthcare systems and as a Managing Director with a global consulting firm. I also had the opportunity to establish a small woman-owned consulting business for several years. Through that experience, I learned that mentoring and coaching others, as well as being mentored and coached myself, was a passion of mine and sought this opportunity often through both formal and informal channels.
Since receiving my coaching certification from iPEC in 2021, I reflected on my career and realized that I had made 11 transitions during the prior 25 years. The key theme of how I made these transitions successfully was with the guidance and support of my own mentors and coaches. This realization helped me decide to specialize my coaching practice in helping others make career transitions with confidence and ease. These transitions may mean defining what retirement looks like to them, changing roles and moving into a higher level leadership position, or even starting or growing their own business. The coaching process includes guiding my clients to dive deep into themselves, their own interests and goals to help them identify what is possible and help them design the career and life that brings them the most fulfillment and joy.
The reason I am the right fit for my clients comes down to our connection and desire to work together. As coaching is a relationship, it is critical that both the coach and the client feel that they can be open and honest with each other. I am incredibly proud of the accomplishments of my clients as they have showed up with courage, curiosity and were willing to invest in themselves to make transformational changes in their lives and they are doing it everyday.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Over my 25 year career in healthcare, relationship building has been a key to my success. I’m unsure whether it was my personality that made this apparent or my profession or both. As a Chief Compliance Officer, I had the opportunity to be part of many Compliance Officer groups throughout my career. As all hospitals and health systems have the same rules/regulations that have to be followed, the Compliance Officers were not in competition with each other but rather it benefited all of us to share information. Additionally, my role could be a difficult one and therefore my leadership style was that I spent my time meeting with the organizational leaders, building relationships and determining how we could work best together. Due to the years of working closely with other leaders, sharing information, educating each other and a collaborative leadership style, long-term relationships were formed. These long-term relationships have built my reputation in my field and have supported me even as I pivoted from working as a healthcare executive into my professional coaching business. It is these relationships that continue to refer people to me today for coaching services.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My network of colleagues and friends has been my best source of new clients – through referrals. As noted in the previous question, one of my strengths and values is relationship building. I have practiced and continue to prioritize regularly touching base with my network of trusted colleagues and friends in order to see how they are doing and how we can support each other. I am happy to connect others as well which is one of the things that I love doing for my clients. Nurturing these relationships ongoing brings me alot of joy and has also been a primary way for new clients to connect with me. I am so grateful for all of my connections.
