We recently connected with Julie Grumberg and have shared our conversation below.
Julie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
While I have not been able to earn full-time income from my art, its something that I started pursuing seriously about 3 years ago and slowly moving to that goal.
I have to manage my time with my other entrepreneurships and the business I manage with my husband.
Moving from abroad has definitely caused challenges at every level and obviously has affected that goal, since moving to Charleston I have managed to get a considerable audience which enjoys and supports my work and that is what I’m moving towards.
I see myself opening a storefront for my art in the foreseeable future.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got in to the art scene since I was young and started to practice and learned a variety of techniques and art forms to find myself and to really look into how to express my art style.
I have found various opportunities of exposing my art to others in different cultures and countries.
My inspiration is connecting my art to daily living, from this I started to build upon a recognizable representation of my art which turned into what I like to call a “Mascot”.
This “Mascot” represents not only my passion but my focus as well which is the urban scene.
My astronaut collection turned into what now my supporters recognize right now as the cornerstone of my work.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Well regarding social media is one of my focal points and not precisely on building a network of followers but to express myself through my art on a public standpoint that can be viewed by anyone in the world.
While there are some basic ways to ensure a steady growing of followers on social media do not change yourself to cater those ways.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
One of the pillars should be community and public base showings opened to everybody.
Using popular and underused public spaces for people to enjoy not only paintings and crafted art but expressive art forms.
