We were lucky to catch up with Julie Greene recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
People in the business and creative world talk a lot about taking risks. Things like, putting yourself out there, getting outside your comfort zone and fake it till you make it permeate the vernacular. While all those are true, I think the biggest risk you can take is NOT doing those things. I feel like in life and in business, shying away from your potential, dumbing down your intelligence and hiding your gifts and talents is a bigger gamble than having the courage to open up and express yourself. For many of us, running the risk of an unfulfilled life just isn’t an option.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Like many, I’ve found the creative path to be very winding. There’s no silver bullet to success. I started my career in the fashion industry, first as an intern-turned-art director for a magazine, then as a vintage clothing boutique owner then as a stylist in New York. I transitioned to writing and branding after the birth of my son in 2010 when I moved to LA. After nearly a decade in branding, I’ve gone back to my roots as an art lover. Today I run Solstice Gallery, a quickly expanding art + music gallery in California. My current mission in business is to bring awareness to the multi-layered talents of established artists. I work with many of my friends who have found success and fame in a particular area of art, whether it’s music or film, and help bring to their audience and consumers the excellence they exude in other genres like photography and visual art. I believe artists are multidimensional and creativity is expansive and should never be pigeonholed. My work with Solstice Gallery is about celebrating that beautiful cross-over between visual art, music and film.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
By far the most rewarding aspect of being in the art world is collaborating with other creatives. Nothing brings me more joy than being able to work with people on a daily basis who inspire me. I have the great pleasure and honor to work with some of the greats. My relationships with them mean everything to me.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Every day is a pivot for me. No two days are the same so you have to be really clear on your energy…where it’s going, who you’re giving it to and why.
