Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julie Blouin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Julie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Life has a way of pushing us to make bold moves either because of obstacles, pain, or simply the lack of joy in our every day life. Life is destined to be lived to the fullest, not confined by the fear of the unknown, limited by societal expectations or dulled by routine and monotony. Living in Canada during the pandemic dulled my shine. In search of happiness, I looked at options to regain control of my life.
As a life coach, I show people how to let go of limited beliefs and fears so they can reach massive goals, and live their dream life. So, as I reflected on my successful career as a life coach, bestselling author and motivational speaker, it felt in misalignment with the limitations and restrictions imposed in Canada. Why did I feel so limited and confined? Why did I feel the need to stay in Canada? I just reached a point where I needed a change – something big. So, I packed suitcases, bought a plane ticket to Costa Rica, a country I had never visited before to embrace the “Pura Vida” lifestyle. It was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking, but I kept asking myself “If not now, then when?”
To figure out my next steps in Costa Rica, I stayed for a week in small ocean-front hotel called “Amor de Mar” with their tagline “A Small Hotel in Paradise”. It’s located across the street from the beautiful Montezuma waterfalls. When I would take a shower, I would hear the sound of the majestic waterfalls. What a rejuvenating experience! In Costa Rica, I was in touch with the beauty of nature, and lots of mindfulness activities were available nearby such as yoga, sunset walks on the beach, swimming in natural tide pools, and sound healing, to name a few.
In the midst of this adventure, I decide to channel this vibrant shift in energy into something meaningful. I co-wrote my third book, “Live your Passion” which is about living life to the fullest, embracing passions, and finding fulfillment. I also received an invitation to participate in a documentary titled “The Gift of Adversity” alongside big names in the coaching industry such as Jack Canfield, Dr. Michael Beckwith, Dr. John Demartini, John Spender, and others. The documentary should be released this year. Adversity can be your greatest teacher forcing you to spread your wings and soar like an eagle. It’s when life appears to be the toughest that you must show up as the best version of yourself.
Massive growth happens in both our personal and professional lives when we step outside our comfort zone and let go of familiarity. As a life coach, I lead by example. By achieving all of these life-changing transformations, I show people that life begins where your comfort zone ends. I’m living proof of that.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Julie Blouin, a Certified Professional Coach, a 3x bestselling author, and a leading voice in personal development, leadership and peak performance with over 20 years of experience. My journey into the personal development space has been shaped by a lifelong commitment to assisting others to overcome challenges and rise to their full potential. From a tender age, my innate desire to assist others was clear. At four, I found myself relieving headaches and tummy aches for friends and family, and by six, I was already coaching my Cabbage Patch Kids in the basement of our house at the “School of Life.” This early inclination toward healing and coaching paved the way for a lifelong passion and commitment.
My pivotal moment came during my twenties when I navigated the unique challenge of growing up as an identical twin. Constant comparisons with my twin sister fueled my quest for self-confidence and self-esteem. This transformative journey led me to embrace the wisdom that “A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.” This philosophy became a cornerstone in my approach to coaching – the belief that true self-confidence and success starts from within. Our mindset shapes our actions, influencing every decision and paving the way for personal growth and achievement.
In my twenties, I achieved a milestone by becoming the first female sales representative on the road for a company with a 75-year history in manufacturing metal roofing and siding. In a strategic move to boost sales, I conducted business coaching presentations for my clients. If they could sell more metal roofing and siding, it would result in more sales and commissions for me. This proactive approach yielded significant results, propelling my territory from a 3 million dollars operation to an impressive 10 million dollars in less than two years. Notably, my efforts garnered recognition, and I received the prestigious “New Business Development” award in my inaugural year on the road, boasting over 1 million dollars in new client acquisitions. Two decades ago, these were impressive numbers.
Today, as a certified professional coach, I specialize in empowering high-achievers to balance their careers, health, and relationships for overall success and fulfillment. My coaching services extend to individuals, groups, and organizations, making me a sought-after speaker. I’ve co-written three international bestselling books: “A Journey of Riches: The Attitude of Gratitude, Messages from the Heart, and Live Your Passion.” I have also written hundreds of articles about self-sabotage, career, health, and relationships. I’ve facilitated coaching courses and corporate training for hundreds of employees in organizations featured in Canada’s Top 100 Employers. My contributions have been recognized in various media outlets, including TV, radio, podcasts, magazines, newspapers, and summits.
In addition to my coaching practice, I’m proud to be featured in a documentary alongside industry leaders such as Jack Canfield, Dr. Michael Beckwith, Dr. John Demartini, John Spender and others. This documentary, “The Gift of Adversity,” which should be released this year, explores how challenges are not mere obstacles but opportunities for growth. It aligns with my belief that adversity is a gift that, when embraced, leads to personal and professional evolution.
My coaching philosophy is rooted in the idea that everyone has the potential for happiness, success and health, and it’s my mission to help them unlock it. Whether through one-on-one coaching sessions, group workshops, or upcoming retreats in Costa Rica, and Mexico, I’m dedicated to being a catalyst for positive change.
What sets me apart is not just my professional expertise but the authenticity of my personal journey. I’ve taken bold risks, including relocating from Canada to Costa Rica, to live my passions and lead by example. I firmly believe that stepping outside comfort zones and embracing change are essential for massive growth.
Coaching isn’t just a service that I offer; it’s a calling deeply rooted in my passion for helping others. I offer fresh perspectives to unlock solutions. My commitment is to help men and women let go of fears and limited beliefs so they can monetize their passions, and live their dream life. Through my books, events, coaching courses, and social media, I have helped thousands of people around the world to take action, overcome their fears and limitations, and create the life they truly desire.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
In my journey as a life coach, determination and perseverance play pivotal roles in achieving success. The ability to navigate challenges, stay resilient in the face of setbacks, and maintain unwavering focus on my clients’ growth is crucial.
Building trust, empathy, and a strong rapport embraces a supportive environment for personal growth. Effective communication, active listening, and a sincere commitment to understanding and addressing the unique needs of individuals contribute significantly to success in the coaching field.
Also, staying clear on my why—constantly revisiting and reaffirming my passion for empowering others—acts as a guiding force. This steadfast focus on purpose serves as a motivational anchor, ensuring that determination, perseverance, and authentic connections remain integral aspects of my coaching journey.
Have you ever had to pivot?
During the pandemic, I confronted a pivotal moment where I had to choose between succumbing to fear and feeling disheartened by the cancellation of coaching events. I faced the option of passively waiting for the pandemic to subside or proactively pivoting my coaching business to an online platform.
The specific “Aha moment” that ignited this new path occurred when I observed the widespread fear gripping individuals during those uncertain times. Witnessing people paralyzed by fear and grappling with isolation struck a profound chord with me. I learned of a woman who took six months to leave her house and read heart-wrenching articles about seniors trapped in solitary confinement, unable to visit their loved ones. A poignant image on social media of an elderly lady holding a sign that read, “I’d rather die of Covid than loneliness,” deeply affected me.
In that heart-wrenching moment, I realized the immense silent suffering and the genuine crisis of isolation. It broke my heart to see people standing in line, 6 feet apart, with expressions of sadness and fear in their eyes. The urgency of my assistance became more apparent than ever. Simultaneously, the need to pivot my coaching business to an online platform became a vital component of adapting to the new reality.
Motivated by the profound need for support, I made a conscious decision to step up in my role as a leader, and certified professional coach. My commitment extended not only to my local community but also to individuals around the world who were grappling with the overwhelming impact of the pandemic. This pivotal moment fueled my determination to make a meaningful difference, and part of that adaptation involved pivoting my coaching business to an online format, ensuring accessibility and support for those in need.
