We recently connected with Julie Black and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, thanks for joining us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My mother and father have always been my biggest fans. They own their own business and have been very successful. They have taught me to always keep my head up, even through the most trying times. Both my parents sacrificed so much, but have built something so special. That is what I am striving for.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been a Massage Therapist for 15 years now. Massage is a great way to calm you mind, body and soul. I want to help guide my clients through this process.
A colleague/mentor of mine, assisted me in opening and building my business. I couldn’t be more grateful for her. She taught me all the ins and outs. Told me there will be so low points, but to keep my head up. Everything will work out, just stay positive.
I provide Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports and Hot Stone massage. I have recently added CBD oils into massages, if client wants that. CBD is great to reduce inflammation and soothe muscle pain.
I provide full 60 or 90 minute massages. I listen to the client and what their needs are. I’m here to help them on their healing journey,
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
As most businesses, I started out on Groupon. I do not market through them anymore, but that was my starting point. From there, it has been mostly word of mouth. The cliental base that I have is so wonderful, they pass my cards out to everyone they know. I am so grateful for them! I attend different events in my community, where I pass out cards as well. That is a great way to get to know the community.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I have been doing massage for 15 years. During that time, I always had at least 3-4 jobs. In doing that, it helped me build my business now. Defiantly sacrificed a couple years to get where I’m at now and it was totally worth it.
