We recently connected with Julie Acklin and have shared our conversation below.
Julie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
If I would of known the amount of talent I have now, I would of started much earlier than now in my later years. It brought back a lot of self worth and validation and self confidence. I believe anyone’s dreams can true and that every child whos told they are not as artist until they are told they are not- as I was as a young child among other hardships.
Sometimes self worth and validation comes later on in life when its least expected.
In my wildest dreams I would of never thought I would go from becoming a humatiran to an artist, until the 39th day of surviving covid, I picked up a paint brush and took myself to a peaceful place. At this point I then knew I had a gift.
I would of never thought I would be nominated to become a part of voyager magazine as Phoenix’s most hidden gem. This will now be the 2nd publication.
The moral of the story is tragedy sometimes turns into triumph.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
How I got into the industry- On the 39th day of covid I picked up a paint brush and took myself to a peaceful place and realized I had a hidden gift/talent which evolved from there unexpectly.
What problems I solve for people- Taking people to a peaceful place where they want to come inside and stroll around, many have believed to visit the places I paint.
Most proud of- The fact that my art has touched people in a way that they say has soul, and I have validation from what was stolen from me as a child. As a child I faced trauma and my mother would take my art and throw it away, many years later I regained my worth.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As a small adopted child in the midwest of Iowa I was abused on a daily basis and basically and hiden and locked in rooms. I sufered unimaginable trauma and being told I would never finish anything and that I was useless. I turned it all around and turned my tragedies into triumph, by using it to inspire others to use whatever coping skills they may have to better their lives around them.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To leave a thought of anything is possible after I leave this world for others to view and for others to know the kind of person I was, from being a humatrian to becoming the artist I am. To show others if you have the heart to fight you can overcome anything.
