Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Juliana Lievano. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Juliana, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I come from a family of entrepreneurs. All my life I’ve been surrounded with people that own their business. Coming to this country as an immigrant was a big change. I had other ideas for my life; I wanted to be a tv reporter. But there was no way I was able to accomplish that here not knowing the language.
Even tho I learned English, I decided to change paths and studied Advertising and Graphic Design. I graduated with honors, and got my dream job designing magazines for the best in town.
I then worked for other companies, doing the same. Had kids, and started freelancing. Then decided to go back to work again. After working for what could be a dream position again, I was not happy. I felt I was missing something, so I decided to quit without having an idea of what to do next. Two weeks later this business idea came to my life. I was scared to jumó I to something I wasn’t familiar with, but I couldn’t sleep with the idea running in my head all the time. It was a risk! But I was willing to take it.
Three year later here I am. Owner of truly a dream job with a dream team. I have 5 amazing employees that have helped be grow this business, and with the help of my husband as well we have made Alpha Lit Charlotte a unique business in town for events. Looking back I think God really places opportunities on your path for a reason. Everything really was like it was supposed to be. I am just blessed for this opportunity that makes me so happy.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am originally from Bogota, Colombia. Came to the states when I was only 16 years old. Went to school for Advertising and Graphic Design. Then the opportunity to open my own business came unexpected after quitting a great job position were I wasn’t happy.
Alpha Lit Charlotte opened 3 years ago. We offer high quality marquee letter lights for special events. From baby showers, to weddings and business events. Anything that you would like to spell at any events we will light it up with our letters. They are unique and beautiful; they really make any event pop.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is extremely important on these days. Everything is handled by it. It was not easy to start forming one, but I remember that what I wanted was having the most people sharing my business. I contacted as much as local influencers I could, malls, big venues, and started offering my services. At the beginning I did many for free. I just really wanted exposure for people to get to know the business, and it really worked!! People loved our letters from the beginning, and that helped us to connect with more and more people.
How’d you meet your business partner?
This business idea didn’t start as my own. After quitting my job I was scrolling on my IG and saw this fitness girl with these gorgeous letters. I was really intrigued by them, and wanted to know who was the business behind. Eventually, I contacted the girl who did them. She wasn’t planning on franchising, but then she decided to. I was the 3rd business to open in all over US. Now we are more than 150 locations!
