We recently connected with Juliana Beltran and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Juliana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The EP I’m currently working on has some of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. It’s taken longer than I’d anticipated to get the project off the ground and be able to share it with the world but I am so excited for it to see the light.
As a songwriter, I have learned that honesty comes first. There’s no use on being vague or sugar coating when it comes to art and story telling.
These songs come from my heart and are the truest form of my identity to this day.
I’m deeply involved in the making of the music from the demos to the final state of the song. I care about the sound levels, the instrumentation, the energy flow of each line.
I’m very proud of what is being accomplished with this body of work.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always been an artist at heart, but I got into the industry when I was 18 years old. Not really knowing much about it or what it meant to be a performer.
I’ve learned that discipline is the most important aspect of being an artist. No matter how talented or charismatic someone can be, that all goes away if there is no consistency.
Motivation has been one of the hardest hurdles to pass over. It is my own problem to fix and no one else can carry the load with me. I continue to develop a healthy relationship with practice, perseverance and accountability.
I’m proud that I am here, not giving up, instead showing up for myself and my art.
I want people to be able to hear my music and feel connection, maybe to a part of themselves, a memory or a fantasy.
I continue to grow and explore but connectivity will always be number one for me.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Connection! Having someone feel something with my music and lyrics is everything to me. Whether is dancing along to the music or having an emotional reaction to a song, it means so much to me as a creative.
That energy exchange on stage between the audience and the performer is unmatched with anything I’ve ever felt.
It feels you up with warmth and joy and you’re on a high for the rest of the evening.
Another aspect is that proud feeling I get when I see how far I’ve come and I go back and listen to earlier tracks and songs, though some may be cringy, it’s so beautiful to see the progress.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
It’s no secret that it’s a tough industry. It’s hard to stand out and be exposed so at the same time it can be hard to get financial success from the arts.
It really matters to an artist if you save their songs, watch their videos, go to their shows and purchase merch!
Support can look very different but showing up means a lot and it makes a real difference.
