We recently connected with Julian Ward and have shared our conversation below.
Julian , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a story that illustrates an important or relevant lesson you learned in school
When I was in the 5th grade my English teacher by the name of Mr. Farmer had us do a writing lesson after we had just read the book “The Outsiders”. Mr. Farmer directed us to take out a pencil and paper, and then told us to write about everything you’re angry about, who you’re angry with, your flaws, your heartaches etc.. It doesn’t matter if you cuss just let it out. When it came time to turn it in he told us he didn’t want the paper, and for all of us to crumble it up. Mr. Farmer grabbed a trash can and told us to shoot it in like a basketball going in the hoop. After we set down he explained why we did that and said, “The longer we start to hold in these things, the more we start to lose control of ourselves. In order to move forward with your life, you have to let go of the things that are crippling your mind and understand you will be alright. Throw away the garbage of everything that is causing you to doubt yourselves to succeed.” This changed a big part of my life forever and I still thank him and teach that lesson till this day.

Julian , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Growing up I was always involved in sports and was pretty good at a lot of things. Throughout high school to college I had two trainers that were big in my life that showed what it really means to grapple life with and without the sport. Coach O.B and Coach Joc are two of the main reasons why I work with athletes now. Their lessons taught me to be disciplined in whatever I do and to always use the resources infront of me when they are presented.
I officially started “F.O.C.U.S. PERFORMANCE” in 2021 but I have been in the training industry since 2015. F.O.C.U.S. PERFORMANCE offers a wide range of things like athlete recovery methods, sports performance and skills training, skills camps, and sports teams. Our main goal is to help you excel in your craft but also life.
I am extremely proud of the results clients see when they come through my program. I’m also extremely proud of the goals that they set and actually accomplish them. Opportunities are created through F.P that can help you achieve anything as long as you take them.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped me build my reputation is that I’m a native to austin and also have a circle of family and friends in the city that support one another. A lot of people have faith in me when it comes to this business which helps to grow it.

Have you ever had to pivot?
It was multiple times that I have had to pivot in life but the most recent was when I tore my achilles and was contemplating on if I should stay training at this gym or just fully go on my on. I wasn’t very mobile and it would have been easier to stay but I took a leap of faith and left. My clients said we are coming wherever you are and that right there picked my spirits up to know that I will be alright, you just need to believe and have faith in God and great things will happen. I appreciate my clients to the fullest and that’s why I treat them like family.
