We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Julian Vidaurrazaga a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Julian , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you signed with an agent or manager? Why or why not?
First of all thank you for having me as your guest. I started my professional acting career at the age of 11. I remember taking acting classes, taking school theater, doing a play in Hollywood, writing my own acting skits, acting them out, recording them and then publishing them on my instagram. I would have the tendency to tag some talent agents, in hopes to get noticed as an actor. This is how I got noticed by some of them and ended up meeting with them. This lead to me signing with my first talent agency.
I did not have connections in the entertainment industry as I was freshly new to it, so the approach I took was based on what I thought would work in order to show my talent, get noticed and get sign with an agent. I am not sure if it would work for every new actor out there looking to get sign with an agency, but at least for me it worked 5 years ago. After a year or so I ended up switching to a different talent agency based on a referral from one of my connections in the industry. I am now in the process to continue to work hard towards my dream, which is getting my dream role and making a well known name for myself in the entertainment industry.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I remember when I was 5 years old, I would love to watch super hero movies, more precisely Spider-Man Movies. I love to re-enact all the scenes from the movies, pretend that I was the super hero and get my mom to record me. I loved to entertained my family and that’s when it hit me that I wanted to be an actor. My mom thought I was too young to know what I wanted. I kept entertaining my family with all my reenactment from movies throughout my younger years. When I turned 11 I insisted to my parents again that I wanted to be an actor. It took me almost a month of been persistent and finally they gave in. They decided to have a long chat with me to let me know that been an actor was not easy, that they would support me but that I had to be committed to the craft. I agreed, I remember been super excited and happy.
I got into my school theater and took some acting classes. I did some plays at school, as well as the Romeo and Juliet play in Hollywood. I practiced my craft everyday, I created acting skits for my instagram and worked hard on my acting skills everyday. My mom ended up becoming my talent manager. Up to this day, she is still my manager and she is so good at it too. Eventually I got sign with my first talent agency. I did started to book a lot of my first jobs through my mom, she is awesome as a manager. I ended up switching my first talent agency to one that was more fit for me. With the help of my mom and my new agency, my career started to take off. I have worked in many well known TV Series/TV Shows/Movies like The Chosen One (NETFLIX) , Lupin (NETFLIX), Journal For Jordan, Dhar Mann, Brat TV Mani, Reasonable Doubt, Murder In The Heartland and many more.
My proudest moments are, when I learned to handle the rejections in the industry. I learned that is not you or your talent, it’s just the fact you were not the right fit for the role. You can either be too small, too thin, too tall etc.. I learned to just do my best work in auditions, move on to the next audition without having to worry too much if I would book them or not. I know live it all in the hands of the universe, weather its meant for me or not.
I think a lot of actors are in the industry because they love their craft and I am no different from it. I love acting and entertaining others. I love to hear them laugh, cry or get mad at my characters. That is when I know I am doing a good job as an actor.
Best advice I can give someone pursuing their dreams is, it will not be easy to accomplish them but its not impossible. Do not listen to others negative comments, but instead fill yourself with positive ones and show them otherwise. In other words, continue working hard towards your dreams, even if the road looks bumpy, because eventually you will reach your dreams.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I find it most rewarding to see my audience reaction to the characters I play, to see if they have been touched deeply and hear their feedbacks. To hear that some of my characters have made their day when they were having a bad day, to hear that they can relate to that particular emotion and situation. All of this is what I love most about my job.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew many things about the industry in my career, but one that I think is very important is how to do a correct self tape and a correct full body slate. Those can make a big difference in booking roles.
