We were lucky to catch up with Julian Ribinik recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Julian, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

Our business was born from the need I saw back in 2009.

Back then I was a photojournalist working for a couple of very famous news agencies.
I was attending friends weddings and was always shocked how standard, cheesy and un-personal everyone’s wedding images where. At the time, I believed that it is what wedding photography is about and was not considering ever doing that.

At one point a couple of friends who had no money for photographer asked me to help, and after making sure they understand it won’t look like anything they saw before, I have agreed and photographed their wedding. My way. They were floored, and from there by the way of word of mouth I started getting a lot of requests for what I did for them. It was honest, candid, no cheesiness real story of a wedding day.
Nothing is fake and everything is real. All emotions, laughs, cries, with a very little posing just to make sure the couple looks THE BEST, but still themselves.

Now it is known as wedding photojournalism, and our style is very NYC. Just like New-Yorkers, it is very real and sensual. It is not picture taking. It is story-telling.

To this days couples come to us for our unique NYC style and this is what we are all about!

Julian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

BORN IN THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE FORMER SOVIET UNION, JULIAN (WHO ALSO LIVED IN ISRAEL SINCE HE WAS 13) AND EVGENIA MET AT AN OUTDOORS PHOTOSHOOT ON ONE OF THE COLDEST JANUARY DAYS. BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM, THEY SPOKE 3 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES AND WERE ALWAYS DRAWN TO TIMELESS CANDID PHOTOGRAPHY.

JULIAN HAD A SPECIAL PASSION FOR PHOTOJOURNALISM AND STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WHILE EVGENIA REALLY ENJOYED CREATING SENSUAL IMAGERY. BOLD COLORS AND BLACK AND WHITE BACKDROP OF NYC DETERMINED THEIR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE AND YEARS OF WORKING SIDE-BY-SIDE HAS GIVEN THE COUPLE A SIXTH SENSE OF WHAT BEAUTIFUL IMAGERY LOOKS LIKE.

TOGETHER THEY CAPTURE MOST INTIMATE MOMENTS OF THEIR COUPLES’ STORIES. EVGENIA AND JULIAN WERE MARRIED IN THE HEART OF THEIR FAVORITE NEW YORK CITY AND ARE RAISING TWO BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS, AND, AS OF RECENTLY, THE MOST AMAZING ADOPTED PUP.

OUR UNIQUE PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE AND OUR CHEMISTRY AS A HUSBAND + WIFE ALLOWS US TO SHOW THE FULL SPECTRUM OF THE EVENT AND EMPHASIZE THE CHEMISTRY OF THE WEDDING COUPLE. THE WEDDING DAY PASSES FOR YOU LIKE A COMET IN THE SKY AND WE’RE THERE TO ASSURE THAT EVERY LITTLE DETAIL OF THE DAY IS DOCUMENTED FOR OUR COUPLE TO BE ABLE TO RECREATE THE DAY AND SEE WHAT HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED THEN, BECAUSE WE ARE EVERYWHERE AND WE DON’T MISS ANY LITTLE MOMENT OR DETAIL. WE ARE NOT CHALLENGED BY ANY LIGHTING, WEATHER, LANDSCAPE, CULTURE DIFFERENCES, YOU NAME IT SITUATION. WE HAVE DONE IT ALL AND WE KNOW HOW TO APPROACH ANYTHING THAT COMES OUR WAY.

WE DELIVER A TRUE STORY OF YOUR WEDDING THE WAY IT HAPPENED AND NOT A BLAND AND BORING EMOTION-LESS GALLERY WHICH YOU CAN SEE SO MANY OF NOWADAYS. CHEMISTRY WITH OUR COUPLES IS BEYOND IMPORTANT FOR THE ULTIMATE RESULT AND HENCE, WE ONLY TAKE WEDDINGS OF THE COUPLES WHO LOVE WHAT WE DO.

It is a great story. Back in 2009 I had to photograph a fashion shoot and one of the models became my girlfriend and then my wife.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

We’re always true to our style and our word. Our principles are to provide the service we ourselves would want and we will go above and beyond for our couples and clients.
Hence, we’re getting most of our work through the word of mouth and are very happy to be in position to say NO to a potential client if we feel there’s no match.
