We recently connected with Julian Hanlan and have shared our conversation below.
Julian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I have been able to earn a full time living from my creative work for about 6-7 years now. I graduated college in 2013 and didn’t have a career waiting for me on the other side, so moving back to my Mom’s house, I decided to invest my time and efforts into my personal brand and company. I landed my first feature film in 2013 which was distributed throughout WalMart, Redbox, Netflix, and now Peacock. Simultaneously, our premier event the “2KPoolParty” also kept growing as we grew. We had an office space which was also our creative space and a hub for synergy, helping us brainstorm and execute ideas and opportunities for the present and the future.
I can’t think of anything that could or should have sped up the process because looking back, every mistake or mishap was a learning opportunity for us as a whole and for me personally. Everything is on God’s timing and sometimes that doesn’t align up with what we as humans have planned out, but thats ok, Its already written.
Julian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those that haven’t been introduced to my brand, my name is Julian Hanlan aka “Ihatejulian” , I am an actor, rapper, business owner, host, MC, event organizer, podcaster and more!
College is the reason I got into the entertainment field, that is where I began acting and also began hosting shows on campus at FAU, started a youtube with my 2klife brothers, and most importantly college is really where and when I realized what I want to contribute to the World and “what I want to be when I grow up”

This is what I do everyday Monday through Friday. Also, “SPTP Locks”, which is a sports wagers network for anyone that has extra money that they want to wager and are into sports, we have a community that helps individuals with sports picks,
What sets me apart from others is I bet on myself every time, and I am able to juggle so many different endeavors at a successful rate. Im most proud of my ability to adapt to the times and come up with new ways to make money, while simultaneously helping others make money and reach financial freedom.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creative is the fact that my work helps me connect with people. There are so many people who share the same sentiments as me, and I tell these feelings to music and people instantly relate to me. Also knowing my music helps someone get through a workout, or brightens their day means the world to me. Same thing goes for film, I like taking on the role of fictional characters because it is an out of body experience, and just like the music people connect with either the story or the character or sometimes both.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media because I’ve been on social media from the very beginning. Everything that i give my energy to cross promotes something else I’m involved in, and that is purely intentional.
A large portion of my audience came from Youtube, my web series were nominated for awards and very popular Worldwide, not just in the USA.
I’ve been on twitter since 2009 so that is where I grew my audience during Youtube and after, then from there Instagram
I also took advantage of living on campus at FAU, I was popular at my school
Some advice for those starting to build their social media presence would be to have the same username across all platforms if its possible, and also utilize as many platforms as you can, you never know which one you’ll blow up on first, and from that point forward it will trickle down to all your platforms.
