We recently connected with Julian Amerally and have shared our conversation below.
Julian, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your creative career?
Being direct about what you want to do one an important lesson I’ve learned from my prior job. We can’t assume that people will interpret what we say correctly so it’s always better to be real and direct about what you want or you won’t get anything done the way it should be for yourself.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
As you guys may or may not know I’m from Guyana small country in South America. I moved to the U.S with my family about 6 years ago. I started singing in church when I started and learned to play Guitar from my God father since then I’ve always felt the love for music and creating. Started doing shows and performing more, even had a band at one point also. Being an artist the hardest thing I had to learn was how to be original and find my own sound, it took some years of practice and writing but I’ve finally found my own sound.
Since I’ve lived in Tennessee it’s been amazing performing at the local bars down here and the most important moment I’ve had here way performing for the 4th of July Celebration at the liberty park in Clarksville.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first moved to the States, I was scared that I won’t be able to find a job or be able to work because I was new to the country, and if you know anything about Caribbean parents music is a way to provide for yourself or live it’s more so considered a hobby. After joining the army I slowly started getting back into music but yet again I’d would tell my friends about wanted to do that for my life but never got any support and natural I just decided to let it go once again that end on up until I moved to Tennessee. My and some friends went out for new years eve and stumbled into a pub called Revelhouse in downtown Clarksville and the bar was closing but there was a lady was on stage singing when I saw that I told my friends I wanna get on stage and sing cause they didn’t know I could. So I walked up to the host for the night and told him and he told me that they are closing so I need to come back for their open mic nights and since then I’ve fell back in love with music and the art form.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ve never been that active on social media till lately but I try to be more personal on the platforms and stuff.
