We recently connected with Julia Zrilic and have shared our conversation below.
Julia , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I’m all about positive vibes and spreading them around me, so when I was coming up with a name for my business, I really needed something that would not only stand out, but something that people can easily identify as well. That is how I came up with “The Sugar Vibe.” I feel like the name itself just sort of makes you happy and makes you think of sweet things. I’m all about the sweetness in life :)
Julia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always had a creative side to me, but I didn’t have a way to express it just yet. At the time that my company The Sugar Vibe was established, my oldest child was 5 and my youngest was 2 years old, so a lot of my focus was on them, but as I was putting them to bed at night, I felt that I was missing something.
At that time, we were also not doing so well financially and I wanted to give my kids all of the things that I didn’t have growing up, so I really had a moment where I thought to myself “What do I really love?” Well the answer was my family of course, but I would have to say that chocolate was my second choice. Lol! So I thought of ways that I can make money off of that and thus The Sugar Vibe was born in 2020.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I think a lesson that I’ve had to unlearn is definitely self doubt! I definitely have my moments where I feel like I’m not doing as well as I would like to. There have been times where I would not get an order for 5 days and I would start doubting myself and my work, but then the next week I would be getting 3 orders a day, so learning to not doubt myself and keep up my motivation would have to be on top of my list,
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Sharing is caring! And I mean that in all different ways. I still remember my first customer like it was yesterday and she still orders from me to this day. I shared my chocolate covered strawberries in a local group I was a part of and getting that message “I would like to buy them.” was honestly magical! I think I even did a little dance. My advice is to share your work in local social media groups, talk about your business wherever you go, and connect with other business owners.
