We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julia Wambach. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julia below.
Alright, Julia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
There’s something so special about being a photographer. I’m constantly honored to have a front row seat watching people celebrate their love, milestones, welcoming a new member to their family, etc. I’m hoping to build a legacy where i’m remembered by not only my ability to capture these special moments that last forever, but also showing each and every one of my clients their unique beauty. It is truly a mission of mine to create a welcoming and accepting environment within my business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Julia Wambach and I am a family, motherhood, and couples lifestyle photographer based in DFW. I specialize in capturing documentary style moments that will last a lifetime! I have had a passion for anything and everything creative for as long as I can remember. I began turning my passion into a business over a year ago, and it has been the most amazing and rewarding experience! There is nothing I love more than being a part of whatever you’re celebrating. I’m all about looking for the in between moments. No need to worry about awkward posing when you book with me, because my focus is capturing all of the real moments! Where you and your loved ones are genuinely yourselves and creating beautiful memories. My goal is for your session to tell your story, and it will be just as beautiful in 50 years as it is today!

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
For the longest time, photography was just a hobby and passion for me. I never really considered taking the jump of turning my side hustle into a full time business! During Covid, i was in between jobs when i realized that nothing was filling my cup in the way i was hoping. I realized i wasn’t interested in corporate jobs anymore because they left no room for my creative ability. I began doing some research on starting a photography business and really never looked back! I started out by finding friends to model for my portfolio and began building my business. Once i had a portfolio, i was able to create social media platforms to get my work out there and gain followers. I continued to host model calls, connect with other photographers within the industry, and stay consistent. It has been so rewarding to see my business and clientele continue to grow knowing that i started from absolutely nothing. My biggest piece of advice would be to take the risks because you never know what it could turn out to be!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would say within a business like photography where it can be oversaturated, it is so important to remain consistent and true to yourself. Growing clientele can be tricky when you’re not the only one offering the services that you are. The most effective strategy for me has been to set myself apart from others by shining light on what makes me unique as a photographer. Whether that be my editing style, communication style, composition… I try to stand out in my business by bringing in factors that make me different. Consistency is just as important! Staying updated with posts, sticking to timelines, and timely communication. This will keep your clients coming back as well as opening the door for referrals after they’ve had a great experience with you!
