We recently connected with Julia Vargas and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Julia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Growing up, I was never a risk taker. Even in my early career life, I followed a system that was already created. It felt completely comfortable and I was content.
Not till 2019 is when I took a life changing risk, we can also call it a leap of faith. I went off on my own and started my hair business. It started when I moved to a different state and had no clientele. I decided to go into a salon suite with a business partner. The first 2 years were rough and I kept thinking if it would be better to go back to the salon life?! But my amazing husband believed in me and supported me. I’m happy to say that I’ve grown so much as a person and as a business owner. I love what I have created!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My high school was offering the cosmetology program and I begged my mom to allow me to let me try it. Little did I know, I fell in love with the industry. I’ve worked for a corporate salon for over 12 years where I’ve learned so many techniques and trends throughout the years. Since then I’ve created my techniques and perfected them. I specialize in bridal/event hairstyling, personalized haircuts, and hair extensions. My goal is to provide a calming experience while bringing out the beauty in each guest of mine. I love to create lived-in looks that can be recreated at home. Enhancing hair with the best quality hair extensions.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is truly changing lives and a fulfilling moment of seeing their happy emotions.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I would have to say, investing in your business: continual education, business coaching, and fellow artist support /networking have had a major impact on my business.
