We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Julia Ross a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Julia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
We evolve through experience. Our path in life enables us to provide a predetermined value to the universe.
Introduced to painting by my artist mother, with a family of poets, writers and musicians, my fondest memories involve days spent enjoying creative elements. I began painting at a young age and continued throughout childhood and teen years, which expanded to majoring in Fine Arts at The University of Texas. I ultimately pursued a professional career in advertising, to build digital brands online, continuing to feed my creative passion as an artist in multimedia, painting and sculpting.
In 2018, I opened Art Gallery Pure, LLC to represent emerging to experienced contemporary artists and provide an avenue to give back. 10% of art gallery margin benefits charity. In 2019, the company extended current efforts of promoting talented artists, opening Art Gallery Inc, to provide a platform to feature women artists and their contemporary works. The art sales continue the founding company mission to give back to charity.
Julia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Everything is connected. The path of experience representing fine artists originated from a study of Fine Arts at The University of Texas to a career in advertising and marketing, to ownership of a digital marketing firm, which currently manages marketing for the art gallery. Rapid growth of the 11,000 square foot art gallery, showcasing 500 pieces of 50 artists evoved via creative growth to art curation of commercial and residential environments, to repurposing commercial real estate, for the launch of Art Gallery Pure in Plano, Texas.
I strive to extend positive energy via the creative universe. Art Gallery Pure works with artists who exude positive energy and we network with others in the art business who provide the same. Good energy is contagious. The aura of that energy extends to the canvas, which ultimately ends up in the environment of the art collector.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I believe NFTs should serve as the certificate of authenticity for original paintings for sale, protecting the artist and their rights to the second and third market sales. Withough much consideration for original fine art, digital artwork remains the focus of this initial round of NFTs. The current market mirrors that of the initial Dot.com boom. The small players will shake out. So will the various currencies.
Our digitial marketing firm is diligently working on a platform to launch, which will focus on original artwork sales, with video as a secondary focus. We will launch in good time, but not too soon.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society will best suppport artists, creatives and the creative ecosystem by educating youth on fine art. Primary and secondary education systems need to maintain funding for the arts and provide youth with special programs, which incentivize them to spend time on artistic endevours. Art Gallery Pure is enaging youth through art classes, exhibits, collaborative art projects and with simple messaging, incouraging the arts.
