We recently connected with Julia Quena Kavi and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Eight years ago, my life was in shambles. I was trapped in the clutches of alcohol addiction, struggling with bulimia and codependency. It was a dark period that brought me to the brink of suicide. Little did I know that this desperate moment would mark the beginning of my spiritual journey.
In search of healing and transformation, I embarked on a soul-searching adventure that took me to Mexico, India, and Peru. It was there that I discovered the power of spiritual retreats. These immersive experiences became the catalyst for profound change in my life.
Upon returning to California, I realized that I wanted to create a life that resembled a lifelong retreat. I wanted to share the transformative power of these experiences with others. And so, step by step, I began organizing events that would eventually evolve into weekend and week-long retreats.
My focus was clear – to curate the most beautiful and impactful spiritual experiences for people. I poured my heart and soul into creating spaces where individuals could heal, grow, and connect with their inner selves. The joy and fulfillment I derived from witnessing the positive impact on retreat attendees and the unwavering support of my friends fueled my determination to keep growing and serving.
Today, I am grateful to say that hosting 20 to 25 retreats a year has become my dream job. It is a privilege to guide others on their own journeys of self-discovery and transformation. Each retreat is an opportunity to create a sacred space where individuals can shed their burdens, find solace, and embrace their true selves.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Music has always been at the core of my being. It was through my first and main career as an operatic singer that I discovered the power of expressing my voice and the immense gratitude that comes with it. Little did I know that this passion for music would evolve into something even more profound during my spiritual journey.
As I delved deeper into my spiritual path, I found myself drawn to the transformative power of ceremonial music, Sound Baths, and shamanic healing. These modalities allowed me to channel my musical talents into creating sacred spaces where individuals could experience deep healing and spiritual connection.
But my journey didn’t stop there. I felt a calling to expand my healing abilities and embarked on a path to become a clinical Hypnotherapist. This new skillset opened up a world of possibilities in healing the subconscious mind and helping individuals overcome deep-rooted issues and traumas.
Music, however, has remained a constant passion in my life. I am proud to share my knowledge and expertise with my voice students, guiding them on their own musical journeys. Additionally, I integrate hypnotherapy into my one-on-one work with clients, combining the power of music and the subconscious mind to facilitate profound healing and transformation.
Through my group and private wellness retreats and spiritual ceremonies, I have had the privilege of witnessing incredible transformations in my clients. Sometimes, in just one weekend, I have seen tremendous change unfold before my eyes. It is these moments that fill me with immense pride and reaffirm my purpose in this work.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
One of the most helpful attributes for succeeding in my field is resilience. The ability to bounce back from setbacks, adapt to change, and persevere in the face of challenges is invaluable. Inevitably, there will be obstacles and roadblocks along your professional journey, but it is your resilience that will enable you to navigate through them and come out stronger on the other side.
Another essential quality is a growth mindset. This means being willing to step out of my comfort zone, take on new challenges, and seek opportunities for personal and professional development. A growth mindset allows you to approach setbacks as learning experiences and view criticism as constructive feedback, ultimately propelling me forward in my career.
Building and nurturing strong relationships is also crucial for success. Additionally, having a strong work ethic and a passion for what I do can make a significant difference. When I am genuinely passionate about my work, it shines through in my performance and leads to greater opportunities and success.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Building a reputation in the spiritual business industry requires a combination of factors, including authenticity, expertise, and a commitment to serving others. First and foremost, authenticity plays a vital role. Being true to myself and my beliefs allows me to connect with others on a deeper level.
Expertise is another crucial aspect. Developing a deep understanding of my chosen spiritual practices, modalities, or teachings is essential for building credibility. Continuously expanding my knowledge through research, training, and personal experiences enables me to offer valuable insights and guidance to those seeking my services.
Consistency is key when it comes to building a reputation. Consistently delivering high-quality services, maintaining professionalism, and demonstrating integrity in all interactions helps to establish trust and reliability.
Building a strong online presence is also crucial in today’s digital age. Utilizing social media platforms, creating a professional website, and sharing valuable content helps me reach a wider audience and establish myself as an authority in my field.
Taking full responsibility for retreat attendance and students is essential for building a strong reputation in the spiritual business industry. By prioritizing clear communication, being present and attentive, and providing ongoing support, I create an environment that fosters growth, trust, and positive word-of-mouth referrals, ultimately enhancing your reputation.
