Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julia Parisi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Julia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Reflecting upon how I learned to paint and become the artist I am today, I find that learning my skills was intertwined with my personal experiences and genuine enthusiasm for the craft. My artistic journey began with a spark kindled by my father’s creative work, painting characters that danced on the walls of our family home during my childhood.
This initial connection with art fostered a lasting intrigue that persisted throughout high school and it was during this time phase that I channelled my energy into nurturing my skills and allowing my imagination to find its voice on canvas—an early glimpse into the artist I have become. These early experiences laid the groundwork for the type of art I would experiment with and what my style would become.
In hindsight, I have come to appreciate the critical skills that have become instrumental in shaping my painting skills. Most notably was exploring the power of experimentation as a tool to both learn and grow as an artist. The willingness to explore uncharted territories, experiment with techniques and mediums, and break away from conventions has been a catalyst for uncovering my unique artistic identity. Coupled with this is the profound skill of embracing imperfections within my work, recognising that those flaws carry their own charm and create a more authentic piece of art.
One hurdle I have encountered has been my tendency to overanalyse my pieces and attempt to mould my artwork to match that of other accomplished artists which stopped me from creating work that came naturally to me. This realisation marked a turning point in my artistic evolution, leading me to embrace a dynamic, unrestricted approach that has significantly broadened my horizons and accelerated my learning.
Julia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a budding artist from Sydney, Australia using my love for painting and creating and turning that passion into an empowering range of original statement pieces.
With a fascination for depicting the female bodice, my signature “Bodice & Boobs” collection is a celebration of the female body and all its might. Adorned with embellishments of gold and silver leaf, my pieces reflect the little specs of fire and light that sit in every female body no matter what colour, shape and size.
Encouraged to create as a means of escapism, I have since expanded into delivering handmade accessories such as earrings, bookmarks, keychains and cards fit for our customer base as perfect nuggets of self-expression and colour into everyone’s lives.
Since embarking on my journey as an artist, the thing I am most proud of is the response I have received from my art, particularly the response I have had to my commissioned creations. Being trusted to bring a memory or a token to life for another person has been one of the most rewarding experiences and it has created a bond between myself and my clients where they keep coming back for more.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Fostering a thriving creative ecosystem and supporting artists and creatives requires a multi-faceted approach.
This involves cultivating cultural appreciation, providing accessible resources and funding, offering affordable workspaces, establishing galleries and cultural spaces, strengthening intellectual property protection, promoting collaboration and networking, integrating public art initiatives, embracing diversity and inclusion, shaping positive media perceptions, and valuing arts education at all levels.
By prioritising these aspects, society can create an environment that recognises, nurtures, and empowers artists, ultimately contributing to a vibrant and innovative creative landscape.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience came from a partnership with my sister and her work in marketing over the years. We began our journey on social media by appealing to the authentic nature of our business and the art itself and have continued to keep this at the core of all our content.
Slowly, we were able to build a thriving social audience who have been crucial in nurturing our customer base and were the first ones to champion any new work or creations that we brought out as part of our collections.
For those just starting out, my advice would be to stay authentic to who you are as a business owner and creative. No one in the media is like you and that should be the most appealing quality that lets you stand out of the crowd and become admired by your potential fans.
