We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Julia Nelson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Julia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
My family has a history for cooking in the family so it’s in my blood. I started cooking in High school, Because my sister would always cook the same thing lol (baked Chicken w/no seasoning and she would mix CORN AND PEAS together in a pot, NASTY!!! The First thing I cooked was Cornish Hens with Stuffing!!!! Since then I’ve been non stop cooking. I attended NICHOLLS STATE where I got my BA in Culinary Arts specializing In Cajun and Creole Cuisine BY THE CAJUN KING JOHN FOLSE. After graduating ,I worked for the MARRIOTT HOTELS for 9 years in New Orleans, where I was able to learn more about the cuisine. After that, I move to Houston where I started Cajun Affairs.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a Chef/Caterer/Private Chef. I specialize in Cajun and Creole cuisine. So far my most popular dish is my “Ultimate Seafood Pasta”. I am most proud to have cook for the Rapper Tobe Nwigwe, and also getting the courage to quit my job and do Cajun affairs FULL TIME!! My food is REAL CAJUN CREOLE CUISINE. 99% OF MY FOOD IS MADE FROM SCRATCH!!! Hard work and Never giving up is really the thing that pushes me the most. I’m not sure what sets me apart from other chefs …… and I try not to even think about that. I wake up everyday putting one foot in front of the other and only focus on Cajun Affairs
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
This is where the ground work really starts. When I 1st started my business I went from business to business selling lunch plates, for the most part I got a lot of NO’s but I would always ask them to follow me on Ig. Truly that’s what built my social media presence! I always tell other young chef you have to get out there and sell yourself no matter what!!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
To be honest the Business part is was really holds a great business together. I Stuggle with this a lot but through Drive and determination I will figure it out. That’s the whole importance of this journey that I’m on, you just have to figure it out !
