We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julia Mason. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julia below.
Julia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Something I do differently from the industry standard is support women in a way to grow their businesses that not only creates revenue but feels good to them and supports the type of life they want to lead.
We look at everything from a holistic viewpoint and really slow down to look at what feels in alignment.
Your business and the entrepreneurial journey should support the type of life you desire to lead.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Julia Mason, I live outside of Cleveland, Ohio. I got into my business after going to a farm-to-table dinner on a farm by two female entrepreneurs. I could feel their passion for their business and it was absolutely contagious. I also wanted to feel that love and the freedom to create something out of passion.
I fell in love with marketing in college, especially during a graphic design course. I was naturally gifted at it and a local restaurant hired me for their designs. I remember it literally felt like playing and I was astounded someone would actually pay me for having fun. That was one of the first times as an adult I felt what alignment feels like. I’ll never forget that moment. Something clicked inside of me and I knew I wanted to continue creating.
I provide marketing services, mainly Attract Your Dream Clients sessions, Website Design, and Branding design for feminine-embodied leaders ready to take the next steps in their business and life. My model is all about creating from a place of desire and joy and ensuring your business is fueling your desired life. It is one thing to have a successful business, it’s an entirely different thing to be attracting your ideal clients, thriving in your mental health, and only doing the parts of your business that truly light you up. – That’s the goal for my clients. Typically they all end up calling me their business coach because I really want to support them in becoming the best version of themselves while enjoying their entrepreneurship journey.
I am most proud of the woman I get to support. They are incredible. I know how terrifying it can be to take a leap of faith and start a company. So many of them actually began in 2020, the height of the pandemic. It was a challenging year but also a great opportunity to reflect on what individuals really wanted out of life.
I love helping ambitious women live the life of their wildest dreams through marketing that is magnetic and spirit-led. I want women and men to know that their feminine energy is actually their greatest superpower. When they are in that place of alignment, anything is possible.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had known right off the bat how vital support is, and that you should not be doing it alone. Your talents and gifts are exclusive to you and it’s essential to allow other individuals to support your business in the things you don’t enjoy or are not as strong in. Everyone needs support.
I have spent well over $20,000 in continuing education and coaching following the launch of my business. It is so important to invest in yourself. It doesn’t always have to be expensive or cost money, but it is important to say yes to your growth.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Starting a business or having a child will throw everything you need to work through into your face. The only way to uplevel as a business owner is to face those limiting beliefs or past traumas. There really isn’t a way around it. I’m the type of person that likes to “effort” my way out of everything. My addiction was and sometimes still is work and checklists. It was how I got praise. Since our society rewards that sort of unhealthy workaholic mentality it just continued to get out of control. In 2019 I was diagnosed with a severe autoimmune disease that doctors think is Lupus. It really brought me to my knees. If you don’t have your health nothing else matters. It made me question who I was if I couldn’t be productive.
I continuously have to work to rewire my brain that my only value in the world is not simply that I am a hard worker and a business owner. What is special is how I make other people feel and my intuitive gifts. Its who I am at the end of the day without the titles and the things. This whole journey is why I want to support woman business owners in a whole body and spirit approach to their lives and businesses. Humans are complex, and the health of their inner world dramatically affects the health of their outer world. It should all always start from a heart-centered place.
