We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julia Loretta Romero. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julia Loretta below.
Julia Loretta, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
It takes an immense amount of faith in self, faith in the process and support from loved ones to continue onward sometimes, but for me a creative path is the only one.
I have always taken only part time day jobs, because my creative dreams would gnaw at me incessantly and destroy me from the inside if I let them fade in pursuit of steady income doing something that did not feed my soul in a profound way. I will continue on this path as a “starving artist” for as long as it takes to be able to support myself financially through my gifts.
If ever I’ve wondered what it would be like to have a regular job, the thought lasts just a few seconds before it is dismissed. I’m grateful to have a part time day job I enjoy that preserves my creative energy.
I’m incredibly grateful to each person who has ever perused my visual art or listened to my music.
Thank you.
Julia Loretta, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I create landscape oil paintings and record original ambient, choral music from a home studio just north of Asheville, NC.
I sing and paint as forms of communication, ways of prayer, and to nurture a consistent sense of anemoia.
I gain inspiration from my connection with nature, silence, stillness and dreams.
I have been painting, singing and playing the piano since I was a girl, and am grateful and blessed to have been raised by a gifted classical singer and visual artist who always encouraged me towards creative endeavors.
Both my paintings and musical creations, through sometimes premeditated, are primarily improvised. I like to follow the flow of inspiration and see what comes: what landscapes want to emerge, which melodies and harmonies come through.
As an introvert who can struggle to feel a sense of connection with others, creative expression has been my solace and true means of communication in life.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I feel grateful to walk a path of remaining true to myself, and honored by all who receive and witness my creations.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
A New Earth: Eckhart Tolle
Not necessarily geared towards artists, but this book changed my life and is a consistent source of inspiration.
