We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julia Loglisci. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julia below.
Hi Julia, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Photography has always been my passion and I am very grateful to be successful in an ever changing industry that I love! I’ve been running my own photography business for just over 10 years now. It has been great, but like many, the pandemic was a major pivoting point for my business. As people started to cancel their photo shoots during COVID, I realized that I needed to get creative and make money quick, so I came up with Good Juju Photography Membership, a monthly subscription plan for consistent professional photography. With my Good Juju Photography Membership, clients can pay a low monthly fee (it gets charged onto their credit card automatically) and they have access to sign up for 4 photo shoots a year. So instead of people paying a lot of money upfront for their photo shoot, they can split it up and pay monthly, while getting extra photo shoot included to sweeten the deal. Funds were tight for most people during the pandemic, so this membership allowed people to still get what they want without paying it all up front.
I now have over 15 clients who have signed up for this monthly photography subscription and it’s proven to continue to be successful even after the pandemic. For me, it’s consistent, passive income. For my clients, it’s an affordable way to consistent photography.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Julia, a passionate professional photographer and the proud owner of two thriving businesses in the world of photography. My journey has been a remarkable one, driven by my belief in the power of human connection.
At “Good Juju Studios,” my new photography studio in downtown Victoria, I specialize in capturing beautiful moments that spread love and confidence. My mission is simple but profound: “Spreading love and confidence through human connection.”
My services are as diverse as the stories I tell through my lens. From capturing the love and joy in wedding ceremonies to creating compelling commercial-style images, intimate boudoir photography, real estate showcases, expressive headshots, and timeless portraits, you name it, and I will make it a reality.
Additionally, I am also the proud owner of “Pop Up Weddings Victoria,” an elopement wedding planning company. Here, we craft unique and unforgettable elopement experiences that celebrate love in the most extraordinary ways.
I consider myself fortunate to be constantly engaged with incredible dream clients. Over time, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of numerous special moments, received rave reviews, and even won awards for my work. I’m grateful to do what I love and love what I do!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Photography was always my hobby and passion, and I never anticipated it turning into my full time career. After high school, I went to college for Communications and earned my Diploma in 2012. I always thought that I would be a journalist, so I got a job working at a local radio station. I was working 65 hour weeks earning minimum wage, while doing my photography on the side for many years. I photographed my first wedding for $100, and relied mostly on my radio job to pay my bills. My job at the radio station was full time, I had great health benefits but I was over worked and under paid. It wasn’t until one day I walked into work when I was told on the spot that my position no longer exist, (due to budget cuts) and I would be let go right away. After losing my job, I was forced to think on my toes, and it was in that moment where I thought, maybe now this is my chance to work as a photographer full time, and turn this hobby into my career. It was a super scary transition, but I worked hard on building up my portfolio, creating a professional website, getting business cards, registering my business online, building up my reputation and social media presence, and before I knew it, I went from charging $100 for a wedding to now $6000. I have become a well known photographer in my city and even won “Best Photographer in the City in 2022”. I’ve gained a lot of experience as a photographer, I continue my education every year by attending a work shop or one on one mentoring with other photographers that I want to learn from, and now I am running my own successful photography business and living the dream!
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
When it comes to hiring a team, think about your morals as a person and a business owner. How do you treat people and how do you want people treating you? If you want to respect yourself and others, then treat people kindly. Show them value in the services that you provide, and good karma will come back around!
