Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julia Kraemer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Julia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Hi! I’m Julia, the proud owner of this small business. As a mother of two, and a fellow NICU mom, my journey has deeply influenced my mission to create Kangaroo Cozies. My true inspiration came from witnessing my son’s time in the NICU and watching him quite literally fight for his life. He was born at 27 weeks, weighing just 2 lbs, and spent three months in the NICU. He was so brave, courageous, and strong.
During our NICU journey, finding the perfect clothing for our tiny miracle was a challenge. Supporting NICU babies is an incredible honor. Every NICU journey is unique, but they all share a common thread: fear, uncertainty, and intense emotion. To be able to offer comfort—and even a small sense of normalcy—by providing clothing that actually fits, feels good, and is extremely practical means everything to me. It’s also deeply important to show parents that they’re not alone and that someone truly understands what they’re going through.
Our store offers incredibly soft products, tailored to be gentle on your baby’s delicate skin. My hope is that Kangaroo Cozies provides comfort and support to babies who are currently navigating their own NICU stay.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m the founder of Kangaroo Cozies LLC, a company born from love, necessity, and a deep belief that even the tiniest babies deserve the softest start. We specialize in ultra-soft, bamboo-based clothing designed specifically for NICU babies and newborns. Our mission is to bring comfort, function, and a sense of normalcy to families navigating some of the most tender and challenging moments of early life.
The inspiration for Kangaroo Cozies came when I saw firsthand how difficult it was to find clothing that was not only true to size,
and gentle enough for premature and medically fragile babies, but also thoughtfully designed with NICU access in mind. As a parent and someone deeply passionate about helping others, I knew there had to be a better way than searching high and low for the best for my NICU baby—so I set out to create it. This lead me to create my own boutique curated with the best sizing, highest quality, and most practical designs for ALL babies- no matter their size or medical needs.
Everything we sell is made from high-quality bamboo fabric, which is naturally hypoallergenic and perfect for sensitive skin. Each piece is designed with fold-over hand and foot cuffs—these are especially helpful for NICU babies, allowing easy access to the feet and helping prevent little hands from pulling at tubes or wires.
We offer sizes ranging from micro-preemie (1–4 lbs), preemie (4–7 lbs), to newborn (7–10 lbs), and have different styles to meet the unique needs of each stage. Our micro-preemie and preemie sizes feature snap closures, which make it easy to accommodate medical tubes and wires. Some of our newborn sizes come with double zippers that open from both the top and bottom—this makes diaper changes easier and allows tubing to be threaded through either side. We even offer three-way zipper designs, allowing wires or tubes to exit through the middle of the abdomen while keeping the baby fully dressed and comfortable.
We also proudly offer adaptive Cozies, specially designed for babies with g-tubes. These feature abdominal pockets on either side, creating easy openings to safely and comfortably accommodate feeding tubes.
*The ABSOLUTE best part of my business is that with EVERY purchase, we make a donation to help support NICU babies and their families. Customers get to shop all while giving back to a good cause!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my reputation within this market has grown because I’m not just a business owner — I’m part of the community I serve. I’ve been in the shoes of the parents who are buying these items. I know what it’s like to be in the NICU, to feel scared, overwhelmed, and isolated. That personal experience drives everything I do at Kangaroo Cozies.
One of the most meaningful things I do is include a handwritten note in every package. These aren’t generic messages — they’re truly personal. I write them with the parents and their babies in mind, often thinking about families I’ve connected with on social media. I follow their journeys and hold space for their stories. When I say I’m rooting for them, I mean it with my whole heart.
I pour that same heart into every product we sell. I understand how much of a difference it can make. That’s why I’m so intentional about quality, function, and comfort. I think families can feel that authenticity and trust that I would never offer anything I wouldn’t have wanted for my own baby. At the end of the day, it’s that deep connection, empathy, and care that I believe has helped build our reputation.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience on social media happened very organically. In the beginning, I was just sharing my products and a small piece of my story. Honestly, showing my face felt awkward and intimidating — speaking into the social media abyss felt cringy, and I wasn’t sure anyone was even listening. But over time, I started to test the waters and be a little more open, and something amazing happened: the more personable I became, the more connection I created.
I think what truly helped build my reputation was choosing to be seen. I realized people don’t just want to see a product — they want to see a person behind it. Someone they can trust, relate to, and feel emotionally safe with. That’s when I decided to lean into being a front-facing founder, even when it felt uncomfortable. I can’t take myself too seriously — I just try to show up with heart and give the kind of connection I would want if I were on the receiving end.
I also make an effort to respond to messages, engage with families, and genuinely celebrate each baby’s journey. I think that presence and consistency really matter. It’s not about having a massive following (because I don’t even have that); it’s about building real relationships.
So my advice for anyone starting out: don’t be afraid to show your face and talk. Seriously — you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. People connect with you, not just your product. Be authentic, be brave, and be patient. It’s the small, honest moments that build the strongest community.
