We recently connected with Julia Kelly and have shared our conversation below.
Julia, appreciate you joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
It all started when I wanted to make some extra money. It was super easy for me to come up with random tasks but I wanted to start something where I could design but also make some extra money off of it. Christmas of 2020, I asked for a cricut machine. I opened my gift Christmas morning and started to create a brand right away. I came up with Julia Kelly Designs. I created a logo, business cards, stickers, and more. I was ready to launch on Jan 1, 2021. Ever since I have launched, it has been an amazing journey with some ups and downs. Everything that I have done with my business has been such an amazing experience and I honestly could not imagine life without my business. It has become such an amazing thing in my life.
Julia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My business is unique. Shop Julia Kelly offers everything from custom stickers and apparel to stationary, glasses, wristlets, and more. I have always loved creative crafting so being able to share my ideas through crafts is extra special. I offer any product and I love when customers come to me asking for something special that relates to them. I always try to serve my customers the best and create them something that I know will mean a lot to them. This is what sets me aside from most business. I am a business that has lots of custom orders, I personally love customs because it means something to my customer and I have the honor of creating it for them. I love creating customs and other products for my customers. I also make sure that each and every customer is satisfied with their order. If they are not satisfied, I try to help them and make them satisfied. The customer comes first and I want to make sure they have the best experience possible.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I post a lot on TikTok and Instagram. Being able to have access to these free social medias is a great way to promote your products as well as get followers. Most of my orders come from social media because they find me on there. I take advantage and make sure I post on it regularly. Some advice I have for others is to take advantage of social media and post a lot. You can get a lot of places when you use social media.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I manufacture most of my products except for my stickers. The stickers come from StickerMule which has been super nice. They are water proof and water resistant which is really important because they will last a lot longer. Other than stickers though, I create everything myself. I have taught myself how to use a cricut and heat press to create everything.
