We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julia Gasparetto. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julia below.
Hi Julia , thanks for joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Sometimes in this industry you wonder, how it would be with set schedule, set income, and set hours. Working a 9 to 5 job can be difficult, but so can running a business that seems to need attention 24/7. I have wondered how different my life would be, if I worked a regular job. With photography, I work a lot on the weekends and have to plan my weekends off ahead of time. I rarely have a weekend where I am fully present in my social and family life because I am either meeting with clients, emailing clients, or editing. The list of to do’s seems to never be ending and most of the time, it falls into my weekends. I am extremely happy and grateful that I get do something that I absolutely love! Snuggling sweet new babies, making crazy faces to get those giggles out of kiddos, and capturing love stories! It is extremely hard to balance work with family events and downtime, but that is something I have learned to plan within the years I have been doing it! Do I wish I had more downtime and less on my plate? Yes, but I never would’ve imagined I’d have so many people that would trust me to capture the most memorable milestones in their lives – and enjoy their time and experience with me!
Julia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It all started when my parents bought me first camera around the age of 13. I started capturing family events and my nieces and nephews – the love for it just grew from there. I started a facebook and instagram to share and family friends starting reaching out! I officially started my business in 2020 and the clientele just grew from there! I never ever expected that I would be where I am today, and a lot has to do with word of mouth from my family and my first clients (you know who you are!). Word of mouth is huge thing in this line of work! I am now a full time portrait and lifestyle photographer, specializing in newborns, families, and weddings! I capture just about everything to follow all of my wonderful families through all of their milestones. From their wedding, to their maternity, newborn, and little one’s first birthday! I enjoy being have to capture every life event for my families! I capture the authentic interactions between parents and their littles, and the little in between moments for my clients. Someone with a lot of nieces and nephews, I have grown to love children – which is why I am so geared towards families!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
My parent where gracious enough to purchase me my first camera. I used that for about 6 years, before I had gained enough funds to upgrade. As I continued to grow, I began to purchase more equipment to elevate the quality of my work and the experience for my clients. Everyone starts somewhere and with drive, you can become successful as you gain more clients (friends!) and are able to invest more into your business.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal when I was first starting out was just to capture my family around me and the events that took place. Now as a business, my goal is to capture every moment I possibly can for my families and couples! I wanted to be able to reach people who may not know me, and want those milestones captured. I able to capture a lot of milestones for the majority of my clients and for that I will forever grateful! Watching my families grow was one of the biggest goals I was able to meet. I am forever grateful for the clients that have turned into friends!
